A tiny brown heart in the form of a small piece of cat food located in the bottom of a yellow plastic measuring cup. Twice daily, I'd feed our Iti girl her dry kibble. We both missed him greatly, and I was trying so hard to keep my spirits up (still do, honestly), to take the best care of her, and of me. Well, #foundhearts have a funny way of sometimes manifesting themselves in the oddest of places, including a just-shy-of-empty measuring cup. It gave me enough of a smile and courage to get through that day. Perhaps silly, yet at times the smallest of simple wonders give one a needed boost. Find what fills your cup, big or smol 💖💜

Here is a landscape nature photo I took of a snowy field in the Shenandoah Valley. The field's white triangle of hill meets a wedge of snow-covered trees. A white sky above reflects the snow below. The smoothness of the top and bottom of this image is contrasted by the inky texture of trees severing the scene in half. As an artist and writer, I see paper everywhere. Negative space makes me want to recreate moments and fill in the blank. Being drawn in by this wintery expanse inspired my latest haiku: snowy field the vastness of a blank page

28.12.2022 - a visit to Kaipara Coast Plant Centre and Sculpture Garden. Along the long and winding path through the gardens, several "life-sized" games were set up for people of all ages to play. Under the hot Summer sun, a chess game seems to have ended before it even began. On the right, some of the slate gray wooden pieces are topsy-turvy and fallen onto their sides. To the left, the saffron-coloured wooden pieces of the opposing side stand superior and tall, smug in their assured victory. On each end of the playing "board" are two long wooden benches.
