28.12.2022 - a visit to Kaipara Coast Plant Centre and Sculpture Garden. Along the long and winding path through the gardens, several "life-sized" games were set up for people of all ages to play. Under the hot Summer sun, a chess game seems to have ended before it even began. On the right, some of the slate gray wooden pieces are topsy-turvy and fallen onto their sides. To the left, the saffron-coloured wooden pieces of the opposing side stand superior and tall, smug in their assured victory. On each end of the playing "board" are two long wooden benches. Not a soul in sight all the way down the beach! A crooked time worn wooden log fence leaning sideways & held together with heavy wire shows us the way as we head down the sand and around the corner. A distant mountain range lines the background on this sunny day. A few telephone poles stand on the road above the beach connecting the landline folks. This structure has seen better days yet continues to do its job against the rising tides
