I had a running bit on Twitter where I talked about how much I hate the snare drum on Teenage Dirtbag and I will repeat it here. It sounds terrible and ruins the song! PANG! PANG! DONG!
They said it couldn't be done

This movie is a real favourite of mine, but it is hilarious that like 30 minutes of this 85 minute movie are clips from the previous movies, montages and a full James Brown musical number. It's so stupid it loops back around to genius
40 years ago today ROCKY IV was released in theaters.

Got a press release in from an independent who says they are standing in the Dublin Central by-election. Among their "achievements" is their involvement in Repeal The 9th Amendment. Now, unless I missed something, I'm pretty sure non-Irish citizens still have the right to vote..

You have to keep giving money to avoid collapse and if there’s collapse you have to give more money. It’s called the free market.

Sorry to keep banging on about it but it's literally *they are on Twitter and think it's the majority view*
This is pretty striking and makes me wonder exactly what Labour have been up to in making policy seemingly in response to / fear of the former rather than the middle group.
Why do people think England flags have been raised on lampposts?

Had a pet project in college where I tracked how 1980s culture reflected nuclear paranoia and this is really good. Saw a work print version and it's more of Nicolas Meyer's vision that ABC balked it. Definitely try seek it out, makes a good movie great (and of course, Meyer is a total pro)
THE DAY AFTER debuted on ABC #OTD in 1983.

The TV movie about a nuclear attack on the U.S. was so traumatizing, my English teacher Mr. Pirro cancelled his classes the next day so we could all talk about our feelings.

At a press screening for the Oscar-tipped It Was Just An Acdident, so of course the cinema's sound system is playing Faith Hill's song from Pearl Harbor as mood music. Talk about a clash of tones, American raw raw patriotism before a drama about the dysfunction of Iranian society

Building on this;
At a local level, Dublin Central is a very strong area for Soc Dems (they nearly got 2 councillors elected at the 2024 locals, Gannon saw a vote bump in the general last year), Sherlock won the seat back for Labour last year and there's a decent Green vote locally too.
My first thought: Dublin Central is home to Mary Lou McDonald (SF), Gary Gannon (Soc Dem) and Marie Sherlock (Labour). A by-election here will be a huge test of this unified left project, now literally in McDonald's back yard
NEW: Paschal Donohoe is resigning as MInister for Finance, and as a TD, in order to take up a role with the World Bank in Washington. Announcement expected after this morning's Cabinet meeting. @virginmedianews.bsky.social
