It’s a perfect storm;

1. Defunded journalism creating a vacuum that is cheaply filled by unchallenged bias.
2. Algorithms promoting anger
3. New undetectable ways of buying political control
4. Electoral politics having no resilience to cope with this.

Unchecked, it ends in fascism. Not if. When.

I think they should take the lead from Portland and have frogs and other assorted creatures at the front of the marches - especially DC (where they are willing another Kent State plus).

Sarah is amazing!

It’s not often you have your own world view so completely validated - and from the perspective of a different Continent.

Important reading in these dark times.

…..and its a fair bet that a 2029 UK Govt with < 30% of those who bothered to vote will try and close down a parliament with 90% Scots support.

They don’t have the capacity to arrest everyone so it wouldn’t surprise me if the police are choosing to focus on elderly vicars, blind pensioners and old people in wheelchairs.

My hunch is many of them agree this is totally ludicrous and unsustainable.

Do not fall for secessionist propaganda or “Texas is invading Illinois”! Pay attention to who is saying this, who is screwing you over, and what their end goal is.
quote from book THEY KNEW about grim realities of secession in the US, written in 2021, published in 2022, applicable to now

I had a very civilised supportive engagement with her back in Brexit times (both Remain I think).

She seems to have become radicalised as it’s not only this but now “Beveridge benefits”.

Perhaps she should pause to reflect if she is on the Syed, Goodwin, Coast Guy trajectory? I would.

Why are you amplifying this rubbish?

I’m assuming he’s now left The Times with his presence on the platform at this Tory Conference disqualifying him as a serious journalist?

At least it used to.

With a majority down to just over 3k from an Independent she is sure to be out in 2029.

Many would say that is a good thing after her performative last few weeks and today’s nonsense.

My initial (and sustained) instinct was to be concerned for the Jewish community…but my reflective view is to be even more concerned for the Islamic community 😢

Sarah - I’m over in Scotland but asked for this book from my wife for my birthday present. On the last chapter now and its excellent. Echoes of Bryson with some politics which I loved.

The Milky Way and kayaking are familiar I’ve been to NC/TN and Joshua Tree so those chapters resonated too.

If its income tax then I assume Scotland is not impacted? I already pay 2p more than England from a lower threshold.

Its a chipper in Scotland too 👍

I’m not sure it will take that long. We are just finding out how much AI will be an accelerator to IT development and even before that, they spun and rolled up NHS Covid Apps etc pretty quickly.

I’m against it but I’m sure it can be done by 2029.

as in “the Brits are at in again”.

Not too happy with a “Brit card” up here in Scotland either tbh

Just wait for digital passports and bundle it in with that and the driving licence in a few years. There is no real need or demand for this populist nonsense right now.

Calling something people in Northern Ireland will be required to have a ‘Brit card’ doesn’t sound sensible to me. Maybe it won’t be required in NI or maybe someone needs to spend 10 seconds thinking about these things before they blabber to the press.

I painstakingly cleared all my > 14 years worth of twitter history one by one last August as I no longer trusted it.

On the Kirk thing…they’ve been curiously efficient at discovering names, addresses - and workplaces with people losing their jobs…now why might that be?

You know what, yeah, people have concerns. They're concerned about paying bills, renting or buying a house, buying food, getting an NHS appointment etc. None of that's down to migrants.
If you attend a rally organised by Tommy Robinson, don't play the "legitimate concerns" card. You're a racist. 1/

Ranvir Singh: "I don't want to believe that 150,000 people are out & out racists.. the worry for me is that somebody whos got a concern.. they end up being [represented by] someone whos very extreme"

Absolutely, the far right is using issues like the boats to radicalise people

I need you to understand what this country feels like right now for those of us who look different. I'm sitting here, trying to plan for Saturday, make sure I don't even need to go to the corner shop for milk, like it's Christmas Day or lockdown. Why? Because I live near where Yaxley-Lennon will 1/

1 September 2025 is the day Labour went FULL REFORM.

They're dead as a party. The next few years will be spent on twitching and rigor mortis, but they're done. Today was the finale.

Astonishing. Who could have dared predict it when they swept to power with a massive majority just over a year ago?

BREAKING: Yvette Cooper says she is suspending all applications to bring family members to the UK under the asylum system.

The whole “debate” misses the entire point.
For good reason (B6, G4 etc), Irish Republicans need a supra UK legal route.

You just can’t have the UK Supreme Court as the ultimate authority if you want to sustain the GFA…and not just in NI considering those justice miscarriages were arrested in GB
