This was a fantastic webinar today led by the sensational @brynolf.bsky.social
and chaired by the incomparable @drbeth.bsky.social for the @ciliplgbtq.bsky.social yesterday.
It's essential to be the best ally you can be especially in current times - I learnt so much in such a short time!
Just over one week to the @ciliplgbtq.bsky.social webinar where I'll talk about being an ally to trans, non-binary & gender non-conforming people.

We're a tiny minority under ongoing attack - allies are essential.

Tuesday 27 May, 1-2pm on Teams and open to all!

It was a huge honour to be involved in two stellar events yesterday. Firstly, I got the opportunity to showcase how our University, specifically the Library + Digital Skills Teams at UWTSD Birmingham are supporting students + staff with AI as part of the @whelfed.bsky.social Summer Webinar series.

THIS!

But may I add ...

It's not just kids who we should help find books they love - it's every age!! Even if you work with older learners, reading for pleasure is for everyone and cannot only bring joy but truly open doors and help break down barriers.

#readingforpleasure #lifelonglearning
A thought for the new term. READING FOR PLEASURE is the most important thing in education: more important than any test scores, or any of the hoops we make our kids jump through. So whatever else you do, please never stop helping kids find books to read & love. It will change their lives! #literacy

What a fascinating presentation to end #LILAC25 with. The Libfest idea and stretching beyond the typical boundaries of the Library is one I am so keen to explore, especially as we don't have a Library space at our campus. I also loved the cross collaboration with the Student Union too.
Join Rosa Sadler and Rhian Stephenson in CSL Sir Stanley Thomas Lecture Theatre as they share LibFest - a year-long festival of events focused on liberating the library at the University of Sheffield and co-led in partnership with the University’s Students’ Union Liberation Officers. #LILAC25

I've had the utter joy of getting to know Gillian over the last few days, and to see what a fantastic speaker she is just left me in awe. The parallels between our university campuses were also scarily similar and I'm really looking forward to talking more about this research's potential. #LILAC25

The power of data security in context is so strong when it is brought to the masses in formats like TV series - mentions for the Post Office scandal and Netflix's Adolescence. #LILAC25
EC has a recently published (open access!) report on "What mobilises people to go against big tech?" One key aspect is contextual awareness, e.g. learning about the UK Post Office Horizons scandal. It's hard to care about abstract digital harms unless you can imagine it happening to you #lilac25

When you consider even some of the most powerful and knowledgeable people in the land are also learning and taking notice of Information Literacy, it really makes you reflect on your own practice. A fascinating session from Anne-Lise that covered both her work and the wider sector issues. #LILAC25
Anne-Lise Harding is in Main Bld 1.22 introducing the Good Information Toolkit, an #infolit campaign for the UK Parliament as a democratic institution & workplace. Considering different types of misinformation that affect politicians & the effects of misinformation on society & democracy. #LILAC25

One of my favourite sessions from the entire #LILAC25 conference so far was the brilliantly named Punk Pedagogy. Maria gave us a whistle stop tour through her own practice and discovery of the concept, where punk values are used in learning design, before we had a chance to become a Punk ourselves 🤘🏼

After meeting the stunningly brilliant @heroicendeavour.bsky.social at #UKSG25, it was time for her NLISN colleague Amelia to take up the baton today. In her 1st ever in person conference talk, Amelia outlined many ideas, both factual and anecdotal, to showcase some powerful findings #LILAC25
