There’s ton of left-leaning or non right-wing podcasts or YouTube channels that D’s can work with, the problem is D’s are uncomfortable with the unknown that comes with it. Hosts with no media training or background check, etc. Dipping into non-political stuff and not coming off with no personality.
I’ve argued in the past that progressives lacked some of the preconditions for a robust alternative media ecosystem, including distrust in mainstream coverage. But that is changing very rapidly, and this would be a good time for wealthy people to start investing in progressive media!
There’s no liberal Drudge, liberal Fox and progressive radio/podcast hosts are far fewer in number than the right. But Democrats love to waste money on tv/radio ads or on long shot candidates who have no real chance.

No one remembers these things or those who caused it. It’s why the senators who voted yes are:
1. Retiring or have announced they’re retiring
2. Was just reelected in 2024
3. Can waste some capital to help other senators who were probably going to vote for it but caved under pressure.

Finally, the polling hit that parties get for causing a shutdown is always short-lived. So even if Democrats had gotten the blame, it likely wouldn’t have hurt them in 2026.

Seeing posts about welcoming TikTok users here is pretty cringe. I speculate most will move to Reels or Red Note or wait until Bytedance is given an 90 day extension in the new administration.
Also I feel like Gen Z is more interested in video-based social media than text-based.
