So many times in this story, I read experiences of other people and felt seen for the first time. The loneliness is brutal, which seems odd as you’re with another person or people all day. But the person you want to be with is barely home. Thank you, Erin.
For @gqmagazine.bsky.social, I spent the summer talking to stay at home dads about what their lives are like. Huge thanks to everyone who spoke to me and to the magazine for handling the piece with such care.
Dads Are the New Moms. How’s That Going?
American men are doing more parenting than at any other time in modern history. What does that really mean for work, marriage, friendship, and sex?

A professor was lecturing to his English class: “In English, a double negative forms a positive. In some languages, though, a double negative is still a negative. However, there's no language where in a double positive can form a negative.”

A voice from the back of the room piped up, “Yeah, right.”

Me (calling my kid’s school): So if the DoE went away, how would that affect things?
School: Dunno, we’ll have to get back to you.

Me (calling my kid’s doctor): So if there’s no federal requirement for vaccine schedules, what happens on the state level?

Read this again with a clearer head. Some thoughts. Prime example of how data can be used to tell the story the author wants. For example, article outlines drastic increases in disability payouts since 2004. 1/

Spent years wondering how you get different colors of grass stripes in a single field. Turns out it’s essentially a weighted rolling pin dragged behind a mower bending blades of grass, and when you view blades bent towards you you perceive them as darker.

You ever watch a video where an artist or maker uses a tool you’ve never seen before, and you want to learn what it’s called and what it does? Not every video has to be Mechanic’s Companion, but it wouldn’t hurt. 101 level info is handy.

You ever watch a workbench assembly video and they get to a part where the crafter uses the incomplete bench to assist in finishing said bench? Figure there’s got to be a word for that; using the incomplete to accomplish completion.
