Microsoft has hijacked the web search feature that most applications offer. Windows just ignores your 'default browser' and 'search' settings. It launches Bing search within an Edge browser.

They once lost a big lawsuit over the monopolistic injection of their browser as the default on a new PC.

I lent my then-girlfriend a windows laptop, & she signed into Edge to sync her browsing data. Microsoft then REPLACED all my accounts (Office, Teams, Windows itself, EVERYTHING) with hers.

The only way to fix this was to go into regedit and perform an esoteric rain dance of a procedure

Fuck edge.
