Here it is.
We used to have to pay McKinsey $$$ to tell us to lay off staff, now we can get an AI to do it for mere $$.

Someone suggested Benoit Blanc interviewing Beaker and it is now one of my life's tragedies that I cannot watch this.
Am I a hypocrite for wanting this after giving a hard no to muppet knives out
Okay, I'm making my case for the only Muppet I want to see on Broadway right now...

Prop 13 has existed for my whole life in California and I cannot overstate just how bad it is for my state. DO NOT DO THIS!
There is a property tax revolt starting in Chicago. One group is calling for a new policy 'modeled after California's Prop 13'

Folks, I will self-immolate in front of city hall if that happens

I've been thinking about this lately. Good breakdown.
I wrote about this weird moment where trying to breakthrough in the attention economy means forgetting that you have a movie to sell.

Venessa Vida Kelley @venessakelley.bsky.social has written “When the Tides Held the Moon,” a lovely Boricua gay sideshow merman romance set on Coney Island in 1911. It’s full of freaks and longing, found family and villains, and finding one’s power even within powerlessness. Very satisfying. #book

I read the new Freya Marske @freyamarske.bsky.social
#book "Cinder House" last night. Part Cinderella retelling, part ghost story, part chronic illness analogue. Full of lush language and fraught emotion. Easily queer. Very satisfying read.

Gail Simone once again proves love is real.
A reminder that this anti-trans panic is 100% bullshit and exactly none of our country’s problems are related to someone expressing their gender identity and everyone who isn’t a hate-filled weirdo knows it.

It’s so disheartening. Dems don’t give a shit.
I received this email about Democrats caving to end the shutdown from one of the SNAP recipients I spoke to:

if you genuinely think Schumer and Democratic leadership opposed this & Republicans coincidentally got exactly the number of votes they needed to avoid a filibuster and none of those votes are from Democratic Senators who are up for reelection in the midterms next year, I have a bridge to sell you.

I just finished the new T Kingfisher @tkingfisher.com #book “Snake Eater” and it is delightful. A modern fantasy in the Southwestern desert about running away and finding oneself, replete with the odd characters one finds in a very small town, some old gods, and a Very Good Dog. Highly recommend.

A new Freya Marske @freyamarske.bsky.social came out ON MY BIRTHDAY and nobody told me. You all have a lot to answer for.
Just finished Cinder House by @freyamarske.bsky.social and I'm blown away by the writing - it is rich with a lush, almost desperate and sensual yearning. Incredible prose that resonated all the way to my floorboards!

Capitalism.
We joke about the Torment Nexus and all that, but...

The truth is science fiction warned us endlessly not to let fear control us.

"Fear is the mind killer"
"Fear is a path to the Dark Side"
etc.

Silicon Valley claimed to love SF, then built a machine to amplify fear as a means to control people.

“Wearing the Lion” by John Wiswell @wiswell.bsky.social reimagines mythology with a well meaning Himbo Heracles, a cranky Hera, and a cast of gods and heroes. It’s about trying your best, deceiving ourselves, and found family. The main characters are complex and unreliable, but fully compelling.

Turns out voters care if the candidates are humane and loving people.
There’s no reason ever again for any Democrat to suggest moderating on trans rights. There was never a moral reason but now there’s no political reason either.

Somebody tell Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg. it’s joe-ver.
