There is not a small number of artists who do this work in part because other work is not accessible to them, in some cases because of disability or health issues.

I have kept masking at my table & avoided catching Covid when someone seated right behind me all weekend reported getting it.

Want to make some patches again... might go iron-on this time unless people feel strongly otherwise. I usually sew some even with ironed patches anyway.

“What makes something art?” It’s the human decisions, the fingerprint of their specific viewpoint appearing in the final work, that makes something art.

im one of those weirdos who never had wrist trouble but my shoulders went off the rails when my cervical spine injury became apparent. you don't need to do much every day to keep your traps strong & support your neck muscle function but you Really Should. takes a couple minutes.

if I don't exist within inches of a tree every couple days I lose it. I need that for Art

That would be really damn cool. Maybe the cover page...

Whatever silly little thing lives in the core of your heart probably resonates with other people more than you think. Let it help you find your way as you create it.

Keep your shoulders strong, stretch, and take breaks, or else. Taking care of your spine will take care of your art.

I try to be creative in some way almost every day, but I don't draw *seriously* every day. I like to try to balance making it a habit with taking some of the pressure out of making things. And it's true, sometimes if a project or technique is giving you difficulty, the best thing really is a break!

It doesn't make better art. It may make different art - I know what I create from within myself when I'm sad or hurt is either reflective of that pain or in defiance of it. Being sick for a long time all but stopped me from doing art. The myth needs to die.

Friends gifted me this massive grimoire of a sketchbook for my birthday - my current book for scale on left, roughly 6x8". It's heavy! Not sure what to do with it yet, but I feel like I should put arcane bug spells in it...
January 11, 2026 at 7:55 PM
Oof, that sucks! I'm sorry that happened. People do come in and out of each other's lives & they could've chosen to communicate it was bothering them or they missed you. I don't know the situation, of course. But I hope your fears don't come true this time!

I get this sometimes but it's never turned out that way!! It might be just fine 💚

someone should... hmm

Rest well, as long as you need! It's been a long road. Take care of yourself. It's good you finally got the help you needed.

From personal experience, it's always better to say no/give me time and step away to go over the details even if you're pretty sure you're not being screwed. Artists are preyed on and seen as easy marks to yank their rights or money away. Anyone doing this for a career does well to be on guard.
