I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America

Microsoft shoved their AI Copilot into everything in Windows 11. Which lead to an increase in Windows 10 use. So they announced they'd stop support for Windows 10, but its usage was still strong. So they started to put Copilot into Windows 10.

Windows 7 use is surging 5x now.

As a 15-year veteran of emergency services that actually works and lives in Appalachia, which I would like to emphasize here for no reason in particular, I can assure you that the real drivers of ER wait times aren't what some people like tell you. Here's what's actually happening:

- In 1986, Ronald Reagan and an overwhelming majority of Congress signed EMTALA, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act of 1986, into law. It requires every emergency department to treat anyone who shows up, regardless of ability to pay. Before EMTALA, hospitals could legally turn away dying patients or women in active labor if they couldn't pay. People literally died in the streets. One of the seminal moments of this was a woman giving birth in the street outside of an emergency department because she couldn't pay and could "get to County" in time.

Here's the kicker that nobody tells you: EMTALA created universal healthcare in America. We just implemented it in the stupidest, most expensive way imaginable.

When someone can't pay their ER bill, that cost doesn't disappear. It gets shifted to everyone else through higher prices. Remember those breathless news reports from the 1990s about "$900 Tylenol" in hospitals? They shared the outrage but never explained the mechanism: that Tylenol costs $900 because it's subsidizing the uncompensated care for the uninsured patient three beds over who's in diabetic ketoacidosis because they couldn't afford insulin.

This system has cost Americans hundreds of billions since 1986 (arguably trillions, in fact). We're already paying $11,000 per capita (the highest healthcare costs on Earth) because we insist on providing universal healthcare only after people get sick enough to need emergency care.

WOW. Remember this May video of a US citizen wrestled to the ground by ICE agents and detained for an hour despite having a valid REAL ID?

It gets worse. Two weeks later, ICE did it AGAIN — handcuffed him and detained him for 20 minutes despite his REAL ID. Now the Institute for Justice is suing.
