It's October 7, so it's almost time for them to insist on wearing shorts then complain that the car seats are too cold.

The point is that there are no places that are free from this madness unless everyone fights back in solidarity.

And go where, Florida? UNC? Columbia? Better to stay and fight.

🗣️🗣️What is happening at Texas Tech is part of a national campaign to erase the existence of trans people. Faculty and academic leaders across the country must stand up now: this suppression of #FreeSpeech and #AcademicFreedom will not be confined to Texas!

Texas Tech’s limits on gender identity discussion deepen fears of politics breaching academic freedom

POLICE AGAINST THE MOVEMENT retells the '60s civil rights struggle through its overlooked work against police violence and the surveillance, infiltration, and retaliatory prosecutions they faced from police in return. It's a pre-history of both the Black Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter movements.

The best negotiating tactics are the negotiating tactics you announce are negotiating tactics. That’s the art of the deal.

President Trump’s furious rhetoric toward Russia is “a negotiating tactic” intended to pressure the Kremlin, a White House official said, a day after Trump delighted Ukrainian leaders by embracing Kyiv’s ambitions for a defeat of Russia.
Trump’s blast toward Russia is a ‘negotiating tactic,’ White House says

I’m so fortunate to have had Bill Leuchtenburg in my life, and I’m honored to help extend his legacy with a donation to the WEL Fund at UNC Press. Please join me in donating, and support the kind of public-facing scholarship he championed.

It reminded me that this work matters. A lot.

Shouts out to the great community of Indianola and the wonderful folks at the Mississippi Humanities Council who made this possible!

In the medical literature, Dr. Battle is remembered for successfully delivering conjoined twins at their home in Indianola at a time when conjoined twins usually died. Lydia and Linda attended the unveiling yesterday. They turn 70 on Sunday—and they should have their own tv show. They’re hilarious.

It honors Dr. Clinton Battle, an important and hitherto unrecognized civil organizer who was also a wunderkind of a family practitioner.

Last year the NAACP chapter in Indianola, the county seat, applied for a historic marker from the state’s Freedom Trail program, and they asked me to write the text for it. It was approved, and they unveiled it yesterday.

I wrote my dissertation and first book 20+ years ago about the civil rights movement in Sunflower County, Mississippi. Fortunately, people there liked it. (Black people, at least. White folks… less so.)

5- alarm fire for academic freedom in Texas, should be of concern to all. The kinds of attacks on teachers and restrictions on content matter (esp. race and gender) we see in K-12 are invading universities. This week 2 faculty, a chair, and a dean were fired. /1
