tbh this is why I think the "future of AI", insofar as one exists, looks like the more purpose driven and efficient Chinese models versus whatever openAI is doing with their ungodly amounts of compute

Not a winning story for US companies. And thus DeepSeek and the Chinese LLMs are drastically different, because they have to prioritise resource consumption over capability to be viable in their respective markets.

Expect to see a bifurcation of most-capable frontier vs cheap-and-good-enough.
