When one leader controls the entire right side of politics, accountability disappears.

Proportional representation would let conservatives and right-leaning voices compete on ideas instead of loyalty, giving voters real choice and balance in Ontario.
A Fair Vote Canada graphic showing headlines critical of Doug Ford. The text explains that people on the political right in Ontario have few ways to hold him accountable because of his control over the party, and that proportional representation would allow more right-leaning voices to express different ideas without fear of being pushed out.

A new @nytimes.com poll finds 64% of voters believe our political system is too divided to solve America's problems.

It doesn't have to be this way.

#RankedChoiceVoting can push our elected officials to work together to deliver solutions for all of us.
Ranked Choice Voting Facts
Ranked choice voting is gaining popularity across the country, from small cities in Utah to congressional districts in Maine. But how does it make elections better and give voters more power? Ranked…

I seriously believe that most people who aren’t engaged in politics, and a lot that are, think that FPTP is broadly proportional. We need to get that message out to the regular folks.

Proportional Representation is the radical idea that a party that gets 30% of the vote should never have 100% of the power.

In most stable democracies, this is already obvious. Why not here?

Strong support for fair votes at Lib Dem Conf.

In a voting system which rewards a two-party system, they are trying to position themselves as the second horse in a ‘two-horse race’ between themselves and Reform UK at the next General Election.

With five parties on double digits, the first-past-the-post voting system makes a complete mockery of any semblance of a fair elections.

Proportional representation would presumably take a long time to introduce. Will Labour try to bring it in or continue its present course convinced it will win the next election despite all evidence being to the contrary?

every single political commentator,

should be talking about FPTP.

how it doesn't represent you.

how it can be hacked (for good, and bad)

it's relevance when talking about how the parties compare, how we _should_ vote

and how to fix our election system for good, with Proportional Representation.

Each time a government threatens to use the notwithstanding clause, remember: our voting system gives that power to parties most voters didn’t choose.

Proportional representation would make sure rights can’t be trampled by a minority.
Graphic with a grey background showing a judge’s gavel, open law books, and a balanced scale of justice. The text reads: “The real danger of the notwithstanding clause is that under first past the post, a government backed by just 40% or less of voters can use it to override your rights. That’s not democracy. Proportional representation would prevent that abuse of power and ensure the clause could only be used by governments that actually reflect a majority. Under First Past the Post, an extreme, even anti-democratic party can take full power on a fraction of the vote - without the consent of the majority.

In these troubled times, we shouldn't take our rights and freedoms for granted.

That's another reason why we need Proportional Representation.

In 2029, more people will be eligible to vote than ever before. But it could also be the year in which more voices than ever are ignored.

That is, unless we change the voting system so that everyone can be heard.

Britain’s electoral system can now give a majority to a party backed by only a third of voters.

In the Netherlands, their proportional system limits power to a true majority.

Time we learned a lesson?

Stephen McNair reflects
The Dutch can tell us something about managing extremism
The UK and Netherlands have similar politics, but very different ways of managing it. What might we learn from across the North Sea?

I agree, although there are considerable similarities between the parties, there are key differences, the Greens are definitely more radical. I think they would work well together but personally, there should be room for both and we all would benefit from proportional representation.
