Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Did you know that over 1.3M active duty service members and veterans rely on SNAP benefits to feed themselves and their families?

Now you know.

Oh, they're already saying that. But part of what MAGA has built is a remarkably effective multi-tier messaging machine.

The true believers get the raw crazy on Truth Social, while the base - who would be disturbed by that - get a sanitized, sane-washed version on Fox.

The energy we need is this suburban dad standing out in the street -- barefoot with Blackhawks pajama pants on -- screaming at the masked goons to get the fuck out of their neighborhood.

Wait until he hears that Reagan didn't trust the Russians.

When the president is destroying national landmarks, murdering fishermen, raising prices because he's angry over a Reagan video, and kidnapping parents in front of their crying children is probably not an ideal time to have a lazy, completely incompetent legislative branch perpetually on vacation.

Here’s the original clip of Ronald Reagan from April 25, 1987, where he delivered a complete and total rebuke against tariffs. Trump's calling Reagan’s words here “FAKE” and “fraudulent.” They’re 100% real. And the original clip is actually far worse for Trump, as much is left out of the ad:

The law and it’s institutions can’t restrain incipient authoritarianism alone, but law is surprisingly effective against a wannabe police state when it is as part of a society wide demand for adherence to legal norms in everyday life.
signs like these are up all over Chicago cafes and storefronts (here, cafes in Brighton Park and Back of the Yards) warning ICE not to enter without a judicial warrant

Any analysis of the future trajectory of the US as a global power needs to take the cohesion of American state and society into account
I haven’t followed this much but I heard a short clip of him speaking on it himself, admitting to the things, expressing regret, etc. While he said pretty much all the right *words* there’s a defiance in tone & in staying in the race itself that reflects subpar judgment, is a turn off, & a major 🚩
Another thing—I am all for forgiveness & redemption, I think it is hugely important to society & a high expression of humanity. Platner deserves an opportunity for redemption as an individual. Redemption (if earned) does not = deserving a US Senate nomination FFS! Like how is this complicated?

How you know this poll is being offered in good faith: It refers to the "Democrat primary" three times.
New Maine Senate race poll shows Platner with 46% and Mills at only 25%.

The tattoo and Reddit controversies made 45% of those polled more likely to support Platner. Absolutely wild.

Today, Mike Johnson will keep the House adjourned for the 81st day out of the last 93.

12 days of work in over 3 months.

With full pay and benefits.

The senate has been working, so this is not about the shutdown.

It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.
In that case I say flatten another wing.
“Just something to think about.”

No, my dude, it really isn’t.

worth reiterating again that “the executive can raise and spend money however he likes” has been anathema even under monarchies for centuries

we’re not rolling back anything in US history here, we’re rolling back the English Civil War
Odds are this aggressively did not happen. But it would of course be just as unconstitutional to spend money donated to the government without a duly enacted appropriation as it is to spend tax money that way.
Trump: "By the way, a friend of mine called us the other day and he said 'I'd like to contribute any shortfall you have because of the Democrat shutdown. I'd like to contribute any shortfall you have with the military.' Today, he sent us a check for $130 million. It's gonna go the military."
Jesus. This guy can pound sand as far as his senate candidacy goes, he needs to drop out like right now.
