I’m a past winner of the Orwell Prize & won partly because I exposed Vote Leave’s unlawful activities.

Michael Gove was its co-convener & refused to answer a single q. He’s now a judge of the prize & our world is truly one that Orwell would recognise

If the system worked properly and fairly, this man would have been recognised years ago, been able to bring his family here and be a British citizen. Instead, he now faces being caught up in the Home Secretary's plans to switch refugees into what seems to be a minimum 20 year route to settlement.

Well, this is pretty terrifying. The Daily Mail is buying the Telegraph.

One massive consolidated right-wing media empire controlled by off-shore interests at a critical moment in global politics.

What could go wrong?

Cas Mudde spells out what has become largely the consensus among researchers: moving right on immigration will not weaken the far right nor strengthen social democracy. If your reaction is "but in Denmark" please at least familiarize yourself with Danish politics

"Record numbers of overseas-trained doctors are quitting the UK, leaving the NHS at risk of huge gaps in its workforce, with hostility towards migrants blamed for the exodus...the NHS is so heavily reliant on doctors from elsewhere – 42% of its entire medical workforce qualified overseas."
All those people, including current government, who falsely claim migrants are to blame for failings with the NHS, along with infrastructure in general, are in for one hell of a shock with how much worse things will get with Labour's anti-immigration policies.

The UK isn’t a “soft touch” on asylum.

UK asylum seeker benefits are similar to European neighbours

No right to work before 12 months (it’s 6 months in France, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands)

UK settlement after 5 years (it’s 3 or 4 in Germany)

Let’s cut out the alarmist rhetoric.

1/ A first pass at this HO paper it begins with usual caveats (‘decent, compassionate, tolerant country that celebrates diversity’ (p. 7), before blaming this ‘comparative generosity’ (p. 30) and for making the UK ‘the destination of choice in Europe’ (p. 9) (and which we are not btw)

Most pollsters ask about issues facing the country.

When we ask about people's day-to-day lives, the change is starkly different.

Immigration is only mentioned in a tenth of results. A majority mentioned the Cost of Living.
