How is it that we already know so much about the guy who shot 2 national guardsmen this afternoon but we know pretty much nothing about the two guys who tried to assassinate the president months ago?

and again multiple major journalistic institutions have collaborated in this. (as of course has Lizza, who was considered a serious political journalist at one point.)

if Lizza's accusations are true, she was involved in a plot to elect a fascist crank to office and destroy public health in the US. said plot involving lying to readers, betraying sources, keeping literal life-or-death info from the public, and possibly criminal activity.

a lot of serious people, including New York mag and the New York Times, have been telling us in so many words that Nuzzi may have crossed some technical lines, but it's cool because she's so sexy and brilliant. 1

They don’t have the actual capacity for this so one should presume they’re just going to attempt another massive deportation for a class of immigrant.
So now they’re going to be doing individualized re-review of tens of thousands of Afghan evacuees’ cases on TOP of the re-review of 200,000+ refugees who entered under Biden?

With DC shooter now identified as an Afghan national not the antifa secret agent White House hoped for a good time to remember the Trump admin has gutted domestic anti-terrorism capacity and reassigned many to finding grandmothers to arrest at immigration hearings.

nuzzi / lizza misconduct imo enabled the destruction of so much public health & scientific research — and a resurgence in measles in the US. this is not petty tabloid gossip or inside baseball. that they went undetected or were rewarded while great reporters were laid off? it’s a huge system failure

I know most of the focus is on RFK Jr.'s weird horny texts, but the news that he used to spam Bill Nye with anti-vax weirdness and Bill was like, "Dude, you're you're confusing correlation for causation" is the only RFK text-message news I will ever need.

this was bad before, but these are the most troubling and serious allegations you can make about a journalist. if they’re true, i genuinely can’t think of a worse scandal in the history of political journalism. devastating to our industry, to public trust as a whole, and to everyone in its orbit

The reason that we reporters are focused so intensely on the L'affair Nuzzi is that, as Olivia notes, it is a basically apocalyptic scandal in the most literal sense of that term: a dropping of masks. It's acting as confirmation of every hideous story anybody's ever told about political journalists

Long thread to say "shit rolls downhill." But yes, anti-vaxx is a form of child abuse. Sometimes it's men abusing children as a way to abuse their wives. Sometimes is women abusing children because they can't punch upwards.

Patriarchy is an abuse factory. Which is why it must end. Fin.

One deeply underappreciated aspect of MAHA is how much it's often a fig leaf for domestic abuse. I'm not surprised doctors on the ground belive men are withholding kids' vaccines as a way to control and terrorize their wives. They obviously are!

RFK loves to troll by pretending he's advocating for "moms." But it's just a toxic brew of male supremacy. And women who get caught up in are often just attaching themselves to a toxic way to feel powerful — over children, which is awful — because they are otherwise subjugated as housewives.

yeah...three way races are bizarre because partisanship gets scrambled.

Cuomo was one of the highest profile Ds in the state. for years, plus a legacy name. you have to figure a certain number of ppl just voting for him bec. they thought he was the D in the race. 1
idk you can generalise from the general at all - it's such a weird one-off race

technically, mamdani is below where a dem "should" be, but cuomo has real loyalty in some places
Also, when you say people saying "Dems would win everywhere with a Mamdani-style platform," I think it's important to remember that that platform delivered the most charismatic candidate in recent history a whopping 50.4% of the vote against a street vigilante and actual vampire, in New York City

This race is close and, given how much Democrats outperformed the polls a few weeks ago, a win is actually possible.

But even a narrow loss in a gerrymandered district Trump won by 22 points last year would be a sign of significant progress.

At $3.5 trillion per year, Medicare for All sounds expensive until you realize we already spend $4.5 trillion every year for the current shitty system. $1.5 trillion of that just goes to private insurance premiums.

yeah it’s bad that Lizza has been sitting on this for so long but also how cursory and inept was that Vox investigation that not only managed to miss the biggest scandal in the history of American political journalism but affirmatively exonerated her bsky.app/profile/bkel...
So the editor of New York Magazine said there was no bias or ethical problems with Olivia's articles?

Does he still think that?

They should retract all of her stories

I understand the reasons some non-Americans have for using this, but this post is correct — you’ll be immediately ignored here if you use it.

If I wrote a post referring to “UKians” all the people living there would ignore me too, and rightly so.
If your argument involves referring to Americans as “USians” it doesn’t matter how cogent the rest of your point may be tbh
