A Washington Post article suggests that, beyond a certain threshold, larger homes don't make people happier. Instead, well-being is correlated with affordable housing in walkable neighborhoods where they feel socially connected.

Public rec centers should have indoor playgrounds. They don't need to be big. Some foam climbing equipment would be fine.

Outsourcing winter playgrounds to fast food & shopping malls is an unnecessary blind spot in our public infrastructure.

Very sincerely, every bit of travel we do in an EV, on a train, on a bus, on a bike/e-bike, by walking or rolling, or by other active transport, helps the climate, helps air quality, and helps national & economic security. We should fund these as national security infrastructure.

STL City finished with 140 homicides, down 7% from last year's 151. A rather disappointing number considering the significant reduction seen through the first half of the year. (2nd half was higher in 2025 than for 2024.) Hopefully we'll see a bigger reduction this year.
Pretty extraordinary difference in how Mayor Spencer is coming into office versus what Mayor Jones inherited in 2021 with respect to homicides. 2024 homicides were 43% below 2020 and 2025 ytd is less than half that of 2021. (27 v. 57).

"Once you factor in New York’s relatively low number of auto accidents per capita — because so many people take public transit, which is much safer — it becomes clear that New York has a lower rate of violent death than almost anywhere else in America."

Friends of Tower Grove Park think our park is not a park but 1 big events space. They already have 2 event spaces. Piper Palm and Stupp. Now they want a sheetmetal Event Support building & a cheap catering kitchen w/ croquet garden & more? Stop the continuous desecration of greenspace.

You find out how much a business/property owner/govt/community cares about people outside of cars when it snows.
"Sidewalks are not a distraction from the city’s mission. They are the ground-level test of whether Minneapolis truly works for everyone...Walking is not optional. It is how people reach buses and trains, cross neighborhoods, access businesses and age in place."

Opinion | Shoveling sidewalks should be a priority for Minneapolis
If the city wants people to use public transit and age in place, they have to be able to safely get around after it snows, William Hendricks writes.
