"The people are leading. This week, for the first time, a poll showed that abolishing ICE was more popular than funding it. But too many Democrats remain committed to protecting Trump’s Gestapo, while many, many more would rather just not talk about it at all."

Bank of Washington wanted St. Louis to pay for their bad choices in partnering with McKee. And in the end, they’ll still get paid, but hopefully nowhere near this amount.

They can't credibly push back saying "it's not cancelled, it's just paused for 8-12 months," after they fire all the staff running the program, send letters to the kids saying they are "no longer needed", and refuse to speak on a vision for the future of the program. That is an absurd thing to say.

It’s bad enough that the Science Center just disappeared this program but they are essentially lying to the public about its status (a program isn’t paused if you fire all the staff and dismiss all the participants). The horrible communication and behavior here is unacceptable. Bleak AF.

Both of my meetings today got canceled the minute they started and oh how it brought me so much joy. I needed a win today.

One topic I struggle with is what happens to abandoned city blocks? This block had another demolition in December and the few remaining vacancies likely aren’t far behind. These three houses are likely in some level of occupancy, with the one in the foreground seeing notable improvements recently.

After reading the news all week about the city, watching today’s press conference with no public comment about SLPS, and hearing that families impacted by the tornado are being evicted, this observation remains true.
I don’t think we’ll get a single ‘Wow’ moment in Saint Louis over the next few years, but rather a series of ‘Oh wow, what the F…’ moments. That’s my gut reaction today.

The St. Louis personnel department allows public inspection of hiring lists for most city jobs. It's reversing precedent and making an exception for director.

Some kind of violence is escalating this winter in the NE corner of The Gate District, especially in the 2600 blocks by Jefferson. It’s been a less than welcoming area in the past but this is an escalation. If you walk the area, it might be best to just keep to a “minding your own business” vibe.

Officials tweeting about national horrors as if they're passive cable news watchers instead of the people tasked with stopping them is a deliberate form of demoralization. A smug shrug of contempt for the citizenry.

McKee hospital reopened as Archview
Anyone been noticing more vehicles at the closed fake-Paul McKee hospital lately? I drove by yesterday and saw 5 security vehicles (slightly up from last visit), the jersey barriers on Thomas were moved, and there was a dumpster being filled out back. 👀

After being hooked up to all the monitors and having all my blood taken, it turns out I’m in sinus rhythm so no one will be inside or shocking my heart today. I’ve been sent home and told to eat and to put my daily monitor back on. Let’s see how many hours I can go before I afib again.

It’s striking how closed off the government became after the tornado. I still have friends there, but access to information shouldn’t depend on personal connections. A city isn’t truly open for business if workers ignore emails or use Sunshine requests simply to delay responses with a “no.”

St. Charles has never required me to file a Sunshine request. They provide data when asked. Under the new Spencer administration, many officials have not responded to my emails requesting information or data. I sent emails in September that has still received no response. I have given up.
