Trying to make urbanism in SLC better. Outside as much as possible.
Bike commuter. Utes. Personal account
Everyone: why don’t kids go outside anymore?

Cities: 🤷‍♂️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷
Banning street hockey in Canada?

This isn’t about protecting kids. It’s about protecting drivers from having to think about kids.
Get outside kids, enjoy the fresh air with your friends!
Just kidding, stay the F inside.

One of the things I’m thankful for is the effort Salt Lake City has made over the last 150 years to protect the watershed and keep public lands public.

Some of the greatest hits by the Utah GOP, all in one article:

1. Baseless fearmongering about Utah turning into California
2. A disdain for voters being able to choose for themselves.

Classic

Everyone here feels the same.
My professional recommendation is to shoot that font into the sun immediately.
I’m very sorry to announce this to the rest of the country & the world, but a transitional logo has been chosen for the 2034 Salt Lake City Olympics & this is it. Why does it say Utah? We don’t know. Why is the font illegible? Yet another mystery. Did they go ugly on purpose? Again, no idea.

A thread on Rad power bikes and their batteries.
I am skeptical of the CPSC's timing. These batteries have been on the market for years.

Of course the Trump government wants you to stop using your E-Bike.

BTW, I called this bsky.app/profile/sund...
CPSC Warns Consumers to Immediately Stop Using Batteries for E-Bikes from Rad Power Bikes Due to Fire Hazard; Risk of Serious Injury or Death www.cpsc.gov/Warnings/202...

HOW DID UTAH WIN THIS GAME?

Good news: I am going to save a ton of money not traveling to watch college football in December.

If this is KWs last home game, the irony of the defense not showing up at all is a tragedy. Turn this around #utes Let’s Go Utah!

Up to 340 yards now. Utah definitely not prepared to play today.
Nearly 200 yards on the ground for KS, are they playing their best game of the year?
Too many missed tackles for Utah, time to step up.

Utah Legislature already has 31 bills related to elections, referenda, signature gathering, etc. going to be rough session for those that support government of, by, and for the people.

This response is perfect.
After a generally positive response to the city's proposed changes, Mendenhall gave a blunt response to the committee when asked if she had any parting thoughts: "We don't see the need for future legislation"

Pushed to December and at least it is currently snowing, but being at about 20% of normal right now is not good.
I don’t think Alta is going to open in 11 days. Or by Thanksgiving.

This is why she is the best and should actually run.
Utah House Minority Leader Angela Romero with an EPIC quote when I asked if she wants to run for the new congressional seat: “Why the f— would I want to be part of that s— show when I’m already in this s— show?!?!”

She’s not running, for the record. She added: “I do love this s— show.” #utpol #Utah

Nate Johnson, that’s a touchdown.

Utah, we need to have a conversation. Give em the Byrd!
That was a bad read by Dampier. Got to trust that end to seal the end and force him inside, Bray would have had a big gain.

It isn’t just in cities.

“Even though he has a full-time job, works part-time in emergency medical services, has zero loans and doesn’t have high balances on credit cards, he can’t afford to buy or rent in the western Utah city of fewer than 4,000 people.”

Are your adult kids still living at home? In Utah, even the governor had 2 ‘boomerang back into our basement.’
From Salt Lake City to Delta, Utah’s housing crisis is pushing more and more families to share homes. Even two of Gov. Spencer Cox’s kids moved back into the basement.

I can usually get by with a thin base layer for my legs, windbreaker shell pant, a puffy under a thin windbreaker jacket, winter boots, mittens, and my ski helmet with clear goggles. If it’s less than 20F I’ll just throw my ski pants over my work pants. Commute via ebike.
In honor of my first <30ºF bike commute of the season, let's talk about how to stay warm in the 20s, 10s, and even 0s.

For years I biked for transit in Boston 9 months a year, pausing in winter – but one year I decided to just keep going. So can you!

Here are some tips 👇🏻, please share yours too!

SLC is 16th on this listed posted in this thread with rents 6%. Build more supply to exceed demand, it lowers the price on older apartments.
Filtering in the housing market is real. Build lots of 'luxury' apartments and the older apartments mysteriously start getting cheaper.

I’d rather rely on infill housing than 50 year mortgages.
