The true enemies of a free society are apathy, ignorance, and cynicism. These are powerful forces, but they can be countered somewhat effectively with optimism, curiosity, logic, empathy, and healthy dialogues. Human beings who treat each other with respect can easily discuss many things sensibly.
This Thanksgiving, I am trying to make a point of being thankful. There are a few people to reach out to that really have helped me, and it is a good day to express some appreciation and sincere thanks for that. Along that line, I am truly thankful to everyone I followed on Bluesky this last year.

So, I have been on Bluesky for a year now, and posted 9000 times, which is indicative that I must be repeating myself endlessly at this point. I do have some other things to do, but I assume that I will be back sometime, if that makes sense, as it probably will at some point. Happy Holidays to all.

The Oversight Committee's subpoena of the Epstein files requires the DOJ to turn over documents—regardless of any federal investigations.

Even if Pam Bondi tries to slow down the bill passed by Congress, she CAN'T do the same on our subpoena.

Release the files, NOW.

In real life, whenever I am engaged in a discussion with a morally righteous Christian conservative who disagrees with me strongly about politics specifically, I find that having a thorough comprehension of the Sermon on the Mount is definitely to my benefit. It is a valuable section of the Bible.

Some people I know in real life say they checked out from the news in this last year because there are so many things wrong. I understand their reasoning. Myself, I try to see the through lines in that all of these issues are really questions about human rights, or morality, or ethics, which helps.

“This isn’t what any of us signed up for,” a lawyer from the Department of Homeland Security told the AP. https://to.pbs.org/4i6kXpz
They thought they were in court for a routine immigration hearing, but walked into a deportation trap
In a court system with a backlog of about 3.8 million asylum cases, families have been torn apart and lives upended. Due process seemingly is an afterthought.

One downside of having a President who intentionally creates his own daily circus, is that the media is truly unable to cover the significant achievements of billionaires who have bought their way into so much of our federal government now. With the circus, there is little coverage of anything else.

Honestly, this new trend of gifting tech billionaires space programs and military contracts is a much worse idea than anything that was occurring with the military industrial complex when I was young. It seems like an extraordinarily bad plan to let guys who make AI into the Pentagon, in my opinion.

"Regulators said Facebook’s purchases of Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014 were designed to prevent the rise of rival platforms." It is sad that the courts ruled that Mark should control several social media platforms, for some reason.

AOC: Trump has been saying the economy is booming, but it’s really only seven tech companies. They’re driving this growth in just one sector: AI.

So the entire economic growth can be tracked down to seven companies and their AI expansion…

It is funny to me that companies now give people little blue checks to show they really are them. The whole concept is actually weird, especially since it is totally random in appearance. Some people get checks, and some do not, for whatever reason. In all seriousness, who would pretend to be me?

I get extremely angry, because it’s a mask for a bottomless sadness, that when I get excited about a piece of music, writing or visual art now, I get a moment of hesitation, feeling I need to double check whether it’s gen AI.

They’re not just robbing artists of their labor.

You might not have caught what just happened on the Senate floor, but the Senate just “deemed as passed” the Epstein resolution.

That means as soon as it arrives from the House, it automatically passes the Senate (with no amendments) and heads to the President’s desk.

Wow.

Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.

Since AI Mode on search engines will currently describe who all of us are, as people, from all of the stuff we type into the internet, I feel very comfortable expressing a broad range of subjects in detail on Bluesky, in the hope that AI will not simply make up whatever it feels like about my views.
