This is my favourite thing from the Internet today!
We have very few eel-related metaphors English now. But there used to be many more.

One of my favorites is from William Lisle’s 1631 play "The Faire Ætheopian" where he describes a procession of haughty maids as being “smug as Eeles."

Have you ever been that smug? Has anyone?

As is now tradition* we give a present to the other one on our birthdays. Yesterday for his @cydethan.bsky.social gave me a wild strawberry preserved in a necklace in reference to Ronin by Frank Miller, which was one of the first comics he showed me 💚

Hair suddenly got incredibly static about 8pm, crackling and putting its tendrils out
"There'll be a frost tonight" says I like a proper weather witch.
And now I look out the window and its stars and sparkles!
My hair is never wrong about the frost.
So...who wants a bit of this Turkish Delight?

I've got to the costume section of my GDT Frankenstein art book and I'm becoming obsessed with Elizabeth's wedding dress - aided by the incredible gatefold page showing all the detail.
The costume designer is Kate Hawley.
The incredible layers of fabric and of meaning...it makes me swoon!

I have waxed two more pieces inspired by @cydethan.bsky.social 's Bad Sector.
They are
"Fall Without Fear"
And
"BOOM, BOOM, BOOM"
To understand them and their titles you'll have to read the book...which you can find pinned on my feed.

The Lapwing Stars by Tom Hirons.
It was published in Falconer's Joy in 2018 (sadly now out of print but he's hoping to get a new edition out next year).
One of my favourite poets.
Check out his Sometimes A Wild God if you don't know his work and want a punch in the heart.

I mean they'd believe it, post to encourage them or not, honestly, but good Debunking here.
It blows my mind that there are real people who see a post like this and actually believe the whole “Christmas is being cancelled by Muslims” BS 🙄

I've been thinking a lot about Red Riding Hood, menopause, the 3 women and the wolf recently.
I won't put all my thought about here - I already made Cy listen to them.
But I did paint "The Wolf Who Cried Girl" about it.

I have watched Frankenstein by Guillermo Del Toro and it is beautiful.
I am off too sweep gothically about some ruins in a storm with a candelabra and a long dress.

Today's adventures in synaesthesia.
Couldn't remember the word chartreuse for about 2 hours because that is a DUSTY BROWNISH PINK word that tastes like roasting chestnuts!
As if the shade of green it is didn't make me feel naturally ill the dissonance between the word & the colour gives me vertigo.

This is exactly it.
I hate it so much when someone does this in a game.
If you don't want the high pitched emotional drama then go find another table.
I used to call it 'bathos' when players would undercut tension, fear, or thematic worldbuilding in my #TTRPG sessions with absurd jokes/references. Then I heard Matt Mercer refer to the effect perfectly as: 'slapdickery'

It's too self evident, too tonally appropriate. It haunts me.

My mummy always told me not to play with older boys who made me cry...

...but godDAMN my #TRRPG group is the best!
