At 7:45: the Executive committee has recess and took no vote (there is no bill text to vote on; HCA3 has not been filed yet). They voted 8-4 yesterday to recommend the dead on arrival (HCA2). HCA3 is a floor amendment. So no committee hearing is needed. You'll see this next on the house floor.
At 6:45, SB2111 is now being discussed, thread on the subject mater hearing to follow here.
No new amendments have been released (which you'll see here ilga.gov/Legislation/...). The schedule lists the house floor amendment 2 as the one up for convo. The full house has not adopted this yet, so SB2111 is still the Senate's text for now.

Review: A truly terrible ‘Taming of the Shrew’ at Court Theatre
The heavyweight conceit here is that we are watching a play within a play, a group of amateur actors doing the show for the first time.

English being a clunky language means that often songs written in another language (with an English captions so I can understand) are more impactful and meaningful than if the song was sung in English. Nearly tearing up at "Chuwi Navidades en Cataño" Go listen.

A little funny that in shapes.txt from the GTFS package, if a CTA bus needed to make a stop it got drawn as a 90° turn into the bus stop

It's been a few months and I don't think the raised intersection at Leland/Damen is doing much. All the drivers on Damen continue to decide they have the ultimate right of way or just drive towards you as you're crossing. It's probably the same as before but it almost feels less safe.

Bold of the grocery store to assume it can change the flow of the self-checkout and everybody will modify the behavior they habits they've created in the past five years

I've made several attempts at making a decision making algorithm in R for a CTA speedrun using GTFS data and its sort of a relief that this is a problem that seems best solved by human power. Anyway, going to do a run tomorrow where I will inevitably use same strategy

We need to name a new phenomenon that describes when you have to fight so hard to obtain public records that you become disinterested in the records once you get them (usually they are no longer timely)

Went to a new place and got asked if I wanted my hot dog cut in half (yes, for better char) and that's not what they meant. They sliced the entire thing in half and now I've got four mini hot dogs 😭

I am so good at assigning myself projects. Today's big idea was to get a non-binding referendum that would ask voters if the Chicago Plan Commission should get the final say on housing projects instead of City Council (styled after NYC's Prop 3). It would take ~56k signatures and is due by 8/3/26.

I don't watch many movies but this was a well told one with a slightly disconnected timeline as a woman recounts and deals with the 'something' that happened. It's expertly shot and Lia Ouyang Rusli's music is a perfect accompaniment
