Grateful to the folks at The Asbury Park Press for the thoughtful conversation.

Appreciate the chance to look back on what OSC’s talented staff and I accomplished during my time as Comptroller.

This again. OSC IS the State’s Inspector General. This sounds like a backdoor attempt to do what Sen. Scutari was blocked from doing because of the public outcry.

Headline after headline makes it clear: Medicaid-funded nursing homes face deep, systemic issues.

Exploitative nursing-home owners have built sophisticated systems that extract wealth from taxpayers through related party schemes that enrich themselves while hollowing out care.
December 11, 2025 at 5:27 PM
Too many of NJ’s Medicaid funded nursing homes are failing residents and wasting taxpayer dollars.

Our residents deserve to live in safe environments.

It’s time for the state to treat this as the urgent crisis it is.

Another example of a major OSC investigation that simply couldn't have happened if Senator Scutari's bill S4924 were law.

I am spending as much time as possible these days working to defeat Senator Scutari's bill that would undermine the Office of the State Comptroller.

I am outraged at what I heard a week ago.

Sens. Beach and Burzichelli baselessly attacked OSC even after their own witnesses praised our work.

This is the sick leave abuse report that @newjerseypolitics.bsky.social referenced on News12 NJ.

Senate Bill S4924 would prevent OSC investigations like this.

It's a bad bill for NJ.

Thank you @newjerseyoag.bsky.social for making this win possible. A strong outcome for the taxpayers of Hudson County.
An important win for @njcomptroller.bsky.social, which plays an invaluable role in protecting NJ taxpayers.

Proud of their work to hold public officials accountable when they violate the law and waste taxpayer dollars.
In March 2024, we found Hudson County violated state law by contracting with a preferred vendor to provide healthcare.

The county violated transparency and public bidding requirements when it invited a few hand-picked firms to apply and privately negotiated with the vendor. 1/5

Sincere question: What will it take for public schools and local governments to recognize insurance brokers' conflicts of interest?

For the Legislature to take steps to stop the hemorrhaging of public funds wasted because of conflicts of interest?

Two of my takeaways from Monday’s disgraceful NJ Senate hearing on Bill S4924:
Why the Trenton hearing to overhaul NJ watchdogs was so important
An all-day hearing on a proposed law to consolidate, and some say weaken, oversight of powerful state leaders and business interests stunned many.

When watchdogs lose subpoena power, taxpayers lose transparency and accountability.

A bill to strip OSC's investigatory powers isn’t “streamlining”—it’s an attack on oversight in a state with a long history of political waste and backroom deals.
