Hope and humility in a time of environmental crisis — the theme of my homily yesterday at Knock on Day 7 of the National Novena to Our Lady of Knock. VERY ENCOURAGED by how warmly the message was received. #Laudatosi youtu.be/wzvaRo0nqzE?...

Just another example of the many things continuing to feed our housing crisis

And in Dublin - particularly stark on properties registered by owners of 10+ properties.

(Many of which will be apartments in blocks built to rent)

Let us introduce you to Daniel O’Connell, the Liberator. A🧵

Born on this day 250 years ago, he won Catholic emancipation in 1829 without violence, proving that mass political mobilisation could change British policy in Ireland. /1

It's important we remember our history.

'The first bike was born out of crisis. In the wake of Mount Tambora’s eruption, old routines were no longer sustainable. Karl von Drais responded not by retreating into nostalgia but by inventing a new way of moving forward.'

The Urban Localists: Kate Raworth and the Doughnut - Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice in Ireland
My last post focused on localism as practiced by small farmers, but localism is as much an urban phenomenon as a rural one.

🚲 Victory for Sustainable Transport!
The Court of Appeal has overturned the High Court's decision, clearing the path for the trial of the Strand Road cycle route in Sandymount. A celebratory group cycle organised by @ibike.ie will gather at Grand Canal Square tonight at 6pm.🚲
A sample of the route for the cycle lane, which is not particularly ambitious or disruptive - it should not have been so contentious! - but is an important spoke in a wider network for active travel in Dublin.

Philosophy of science aside, his presentation of medical cases of people suffering from mental and neurological illness is sensitising me to how scary or disorienting the world can be for them, particularly those with schizophrenia and right hemisphere strokes. They suffer so much.

I once took a Philosophy of Science class with Louis Caruana SJ at Heythrop College and got as far as asking “are things or relations more fundamental?” Now I am enjoying Dr Iain McGilchrist’s mind-opening answer to that question. What a book.
