Wild how little discussion of Rev. Jackson I’m seeing on my tl this morning. He was such a powerful figure in my childhood, though like others, it took until I was an adult before I could understand how powerful he was; he was sidelined by those on both sides. Deeply sad to hear of his passing.

Your regular reminder that what people look like, their hair is like, their clothes are like, is not the point.

We are here to call people to account for what they do and say. That is what matters.

We are here to fight for the dignity of every single human being.

Pursue justice justly.

ICE may have lost the battle for public opinion, and its operation may be hampered by local pushback, but it has succeeded in one respect: It has instilled terror in Minnesota’s immigrant communities, forcing them into the shadows.

have never seen popular public opinion shift so fast about a surveillance product than the fallout from ring's super bowl "search party" ad. they'll teach this in advertising courses one day. chef's kiss baby www.404media.co/with-ring-am...
With Ring, American Consumers Built a Surveillance Dragnet
Ring's 'Search Party' is dystopian surveillance accelerationism.

While this absolutely sucks, we are going to see a lot more places implementing universal global age verification over this next year, because the number of states and countries legally requiring it has gotten to the point no one can keep up anymore.

Okay do I fail at figuring out how to navigate NBC's coverage or...did NBC seriously not show Matteo Rizzo's free skate at all?

Because A) fuck you NBC, and B) they didn't show his short program either and also fuck you for that, and C) that skate was epic! I'm so happy for him!

Cool cool Salesforce is funding Mr. Beast doing some weird hunt thing with...AI?

Also, let's not forget that Salesforce's first foray into Super Bowl advertising was this:

At least they're consistent.

And now we have a commercial for "The 'Burbs," featuring creepy houses with surveillance cameras, "Where everybody knows everything about you."

That pairs well with the Ring commercial from a few moments ago, yeah?

Even Redfin was like, "Just call your neighbor to help you find your dog."

We know we have choices, even from just watching this one football game...
I tell you what, Ring figured out exactly how to weaponize white people’s empathy in service to a corporately controlled surveillance state.

Tell them it will find your dog.

Your Ring camera can scam passing dogs and compare them to databases of missing dogs and that’s heartwarming and there are absolutely no sinister implications that’s why the guy in the button-down and Dockers is soothing

Okay I'm just saying after Kendrick's performance last year, and that performance /this/ year, it feels like there's been a turning point in using the SBHTS as a platform for a message and not just for putting on a big flashy show. (Yes, I know a few previous performers did, but they were rare.)
