So for Christmas my wife gave me an ancestry.com.au subscription to keep my noisy brain occupied.
Loving it so far. I had no idea how Welsh I am, which I never realised.
Anyway, it is a strange sensation getting snapshots of long dead relatives lives through census data and baptism records

Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don't have any surface noise. I said, "listen mate, life has surface noise."

Does anyone else with ADHD constantly forget to put laundry liquid in when they put a load of washing on?

Or is that just me?

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

Right batteries? Check
Enough of those batteries? Fail
Shoutout to everyone who is scrambling to put the thing together

Very meaningful eye contact to those who just realized they don't have and can't get the right batteries

Strength to those who are putting together a thing with so. many. stickers.

You're making magic happen, and I love you for it

Fun fact: the voice of Barbie in the Norwegian dub of Toy Story 3 was Lene Nystrøm, who was the vocalist on 1990s bubblegum pop song 'Barbie Girl'

I just bought a fantastic Christmas present for myself. The Marvel Comics Try-Out Book, which I have wanted since I was 12. Found it at Blue Mountains Books in Glenbrook and in my wife's words, walked out of the store beaming like a little kid.

"This is not a time to be dismayed.

This is punk rock time, this is what Joe Strummer trained you for.

It is now time to go. You’re a good person. That means more now than ever."
Henry Rollins

23 years gone, I can't word a better tribute to Strummer than Rollins has.

So the ridiculous storyline in the show Animal Kingdom where they pull a heist on a mega-church was actually plausible?!

Out Christmas shopping and overhead a mother point at a Rainbow Batman figure, making a homophobic comment to her sons about woke culture taking over, saying it is why no one will watch the films.
I wanted to tell the ignorant hag that it is based on a comic from the 50s!
I regret not doing so now

How parents should talk to their children about the horror of the Bondi shootings | Vanessa Cobham for The Conversation
I am a clinical psychologist and researcher with a focus on children, anxiety and post-traumatic stress. Here are some things to keep in mind As the community begins to grapple with the horror and tragedy of the Bondi shootings on Sunday, children will probably have questions. Parents may also be wondering how to talk to their young kids and teenagers about what happened. I am a clinical psychologist and researcher with a focus on children, anxiety and post-traumatic stress. Here are some things to keep in mind when talking to children about the tragedy in Bondi (though many of these apply to any bad thing happening in the world). Some bad men used guns to shoot some people near the beach in Sydney. The police and doctors are helping the people who were hurt and the men who did the shooting have been taken away so they can’t hurt anyone else. Two men went to Bondi beach in Sydney and shot at people who were celebrating a religious festival. One of the shooters was killed and the other is under police guard. Some people were killed and some more were badly hurt. They are in hospital where medical staff are working as hard as they can to make sure they are OK. The police are also working really hard to understand why and how this happened and to try to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Two men went to a Jewish religious celebration at Bondi beach in Sydney and shot guns at the crowds of people there. Sixteen people have been killed and more people have been injured and are in hospital. One of the shooters has been killed and the other one is under police guard. The police and security agencies are investigating why and how this happened. There’s also a political debate now about gun control in Australia. Continue reading...

Tough moment this morning explaining the Bondi terrorist attack to my 8 year old. I had to let her know about it before she heard it elsewhere.

She has friends from cultures all over the world and embracing them is the norm. Such an impossible concept to explain to her the hate behind this attack.

A horror night for Australia. But the acts of Australians from all walks of life to protect and help shows this nation is much stronger than those who seek to divide us.
