Why are those so insistent on that red tape is a barrier to business success are so eager to impose even more draconian limits on the unemployed.
( I've been arguing this point since Thatcher UK clamp down in the 1980s )
Never mind that now joblessness is needed bring down inflation.

Just had a chat with a retired banking IT guy, who said it would be a massive undertaking for Kiwibank but would set Kiwibank up as most dominant bank within New Zealand within a couple of years.

One simple thing this govt can do is shift all govt/State banking from Westpac/ANZ/Citibank to Kiwibank.

At present,govt is paying millions in fees to foreign owned banks,with profits remitted overseas.This is madness.

But Nats wont do anything.Too obvious.

Provide free banking and mortgage lending at OCR+1 as a public banking service, and nationalise fossil fuel electricity generation (and incentivise generators to reduce it's use). Split wholesale / retail grocery and force sale of half of supermarkets to several new entrants. No more half measures.

However, the older trees on berms need to be properly maintained to keep an appropriate footprint for their location!

2019 Trees are far to high & represent a storm risk to property & life & impede upon both road & footpath.

2012 - Franklin becomes part of Auckland Supercity,.

November 2009 - the trees were planted over 20 years before & were trimmed by the Franklin District council every three years to maintain an appropriate footprint for their location.

Indeed, competition works only when the incentives align with the ideal goals:
"What about keeping the assets publicly owned but areas managed by competing teams, with the remuneration based on how well it the infrastructure is maintained?"

There is major issues with Public Private partnerships based on assets in private ownership.

But both unwillingness to spend by governments & private profit motive optimised returns leads to under investment in maintaining the infrastructure & failure to meet demand from population rise.

GOOD NEWS ALERT 🚨

Today the government relented to pressure from the @livingwageaotearoa.bsky.social and retained the requirement for contracted workers to be paid at least the Living Wage rate in Government Contracts. Around 5,000 workers will likely benefit from this decision

More of a low-profile go-fast vessel than a Narco sub, but still would have been a very uncomfortable trip.

You would need the return of Short Sunderland sized flying boats, guided by autonomous reconnaissance drones, to successfully intercept them before they drop their load.
