Proud to share this back-to-school piece today. Faculty across the US are working really hard to slow a series of attacks on the basic idea of higher education. Their work is really inspiring and offers some ideas for how we can all agitate from where we are.

Faculty at state schools are waging collective action in the face of both federal and state attacks. Will it be enough?

i'm logging off to walk my dog in the sun, paint a wall in my house, and buy my dog a halloween costume (ideas welcome!!! I can't find a porkchop costume for porkchop so far)

i wish everyone a little walk in the sun and a little joy today. the point of fighting for liberation is to enjoy life.

Since I'm talking about this, does anybody need line editing or copy editing on their books or movement resources? I would love to help nurture your works about making change or understanding the current moment and its history. I've got 20 years of experience and I will never ever use "AI"/LLMs.

The Rutgers teachers’ unions are standing in solidarity with History Professor Mark Bray, who has been targeted by Turning Point USA. The group has falsely claimed that Bray, the author of Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook is “a prominent leader of the antifa movement,” and should be fired.

As we hope and dream of an end to the most accute fighting, we dare to turn toward a future of building. Support Alaa as an architect, as an independent woman rebuilding her life against the odds of the occupation and the genocide. Please support her if you can

OK the headline is terrible but the conclusion I'm actually drawing from this 'story' is that Trump et al DO have reputational levers that protest tactics can impact!
it's not the same as the "name and shame" we tend to rely on, but there are things they want that we can make harder for them to get

Fascism has enveloped our country. Millions are imprisoned in U.S. jails and prisons. Trump’s gestapo is disappearing people. This week, I launched The ACAB Report. We report on this hellscape and the resistance to it. I hope you'll subscribe.

Should be no surprise, but as a proud anti-fascist I want to shout my full-throated support for my union comrades and colleagues Mark Bray and Yesenia Barragan.

This week, our colleague Dr. Mark Bray came under attack by Turning Point USA’s Rutgers chapter for his public scholarship. Rutgers AAUP-AFT and the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union condemn this campaign and stand in solidarity with our colleagues. Read our full statement here: https://loom.ly/BDXasRY

currently my plan is to make a checklist in the next month: where are all the places in my relationships and daily life that I expect to run into either AI or surveillance tech? who is running or using them? how can I talk to those folks/ what asks do i want to make?

I would love to hear from y'all how (if) you're asking people in your lives to disclose AI use in any realm where you overlap. I'm also trying to get better at doing this with the listening devices like Alexa.

this was very good AND is fairly hopeful actually.

:( losers! LOL

I think part of what's happening around me is not necessarily secretive or shame, but normalization so that people don't think to mention it specifically. definitely with the spy devices.

The plan to stop the killing of children and women is not humiliating; it is the honor of humanity. What is humiliating is justifying bloodshed and seeing a crime and calling it dignity.

do i need to start posting daily reminders that Newsom absolutely sucks and stands for the same shit as JD Vance?

watched late night last night and while it was heartening to see Kimmel and Colbert commiserating overtly, it was enraging to see Newsom be pushed as the new "it" politician.

I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Alaa. Alaa is 26 and comes from a family of teachers. She taught kindergarten and workshops for self confidence. She lost her job and home but continued to teach for free. She’s supporting her family including her disabled father and siblings.

something I have not seen in the many "AI and me" essays is anyone talking about how completely enraged it can make a human being to have to try to get a machine to give us what we need. the times I have suspected I'm interacting with an "AI assistant" it has been totally infuriating.

Another BDS win:

Thanks to calls for a boycott by UK running communities, Saucony has ended its sponsorship of the Jerusalem Marathon.

www.middleeasteye.net/news/us-spor...
US sports brand Saucony has ended its sponsorship of the Jerusalem Marathon - a race that cuts through illegally occupied East Jerusalem - following boycott calls from running communities in the UK who accused the company of "sportswashing" Israel's war on Gaza.

A spokesperson for Saucony confirmed to Middle East Eye that the US sports brand had ended its sponsorship of the Jerusalem Marathon and taken its logo off the marathon's official website.

"At Saucony, we believe running is a powerful force for connection. One that brings people together across backgrounds and beliefs," said the spokesperson.

"Over the past few days, we've listened closely to concerns from our community about our sponsorship of the Jerusalem Marathon, and after thoughtful consideration, we have made our decision to step back from our sponsorship position."

Saucony has sponsored the Jerusalem Marathon for the past three years, marking its involvement with the creation of official race shoes for the event.
