At best it could be MAR-LAY or MAR-LEH or MAR-LUH but the long e is just objectively wrong 😬

It can still be a decent means of money laundering for this kind of thing. Like who's to say whoever made $400k off predicting the Venezuela invasion didn't have some cadre of people purposefully bet against them? Looks nice and legal on the ledgers.

Even if it is rigged, it still serves a very important purpose: it provides a deniable back-channel for paying graft to government officials. Rather than a crypto transaction, you take a big bet on the other side of gov official, official takes action to win, official collects your cash.. 1/2

Fascism is here.

Whether or not we stand up to and eradicate it is the only question left.

NO ONE is coming to save us...not Congress, not the courts, not law enforcement, not the military.

IF, and it's a substantial IF, we get out of this, it will be because of us.

Oh yeah and there was TV2 and a Microsoft version called "Hellbender" with better resolution modes, where you could fly into tubes in the ground like the Millennium Falcon and blow up an underground reactor???

It's probably EA because iirc they bought out the Bullfrog portfolio and the stress of production on MC2 was what caused Molyneux to break away and go over to Microsoft? πŸ€”

Did you ever use GameSpy? Or some other 3rd party? The client was pretty good. There were also MIRC plugins and scripts where you could post your games and other people could join.

Bullfrog games RIP, they had the BEST games but their multiplayer was doodoo. Magic Carpet. Syndicate. Dungeon Keeper. The stuff that earned Peter Molyneux his reputation.
January 9, 2026 at 2:45 AM
Terminal Velocity was SO RAD. I bought a joystick with Y-axis twist and a throttle just to play it "right". But IIRC the multiplayer was buggy?

Magic carpet is incredible. They need to reboot it!!! Or hire me to remake it!!!

When Descent II came out, we went absolutely bonkers.

When Descent III released, its tech specs were SO HIGH we had to all save our summer job money and buy Pentiums just to play it.

(We were going to anyways but the reqs for it were so high... 😭)

Shadow Warrior had the best one-liners outside of Duke Nukem itself. Kinda racist though. 😬

At my high school, we played Descent. We ran our own coax through the ceiling. We built null modem cables and had tournament brackets in the library at lunch. We hacked the Compaqs to play it.

Oddly enough my friends at the time absolutely loved ROTT, and I thought it was dog buns. Never got into it at all. But I really loved Duke3D multiplayer. Lots of great maps in that.

Heretic/Hexen were much better medieval FPS. I probably had more Q1 playtime than in Doom. Mostly because of the original Team Fortress. But Q2 had some great mods. Multiplayer matchmaking services were getting better and better. Q3 multiplayer was very good.
