I knew Fox News was theater. I just didn't realize it was a repertory theater that recycles actors for different roles.

You'd think a company that had to pay $787,000,000 for deceiving its viewers would be a little more careful about blatantly continuing the practice.

A billion dollars is the socio-political equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work as ruthlessly and diligently to prevent the acquisition of the former as we do the latter.

“The problem with billionaires isn’t that they’re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. It’s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.”

blade runner actually has a lot in common with dick’s novel in terms of the broad outlines of the plot and the characters but the details and thematic preoccupations don’t really match up, especially once ridley scott went on his “deckard
is a replicant” tear.

indeed - hollywood makes every philip k. dick protagonist into han solo when he always intended them to be george constanza. he was all about the schlubs tortured by runaway tech. and god.

rereading "do androids dream of electric sheep". hard to imagine harrison ford playing the scene where deckard is so ashamed and of owning a fake sheep instead of a rare real animal that he gets in a bickering argument with his smug neighbor over buying a pony, and eventually leaves in a snit.

If AI was actually so effective as to be inevitable, we wouldn’t have so many people browbeating us with commentary about how inevitable it is.

It took AI to convince me the human soul exists in much the same way it took a bar full of stripper vampires to convince Harvey Keitel that God exists.

but god i fucking love being gen-x and getting to go fogey on AIs unholy ass. this brand of luddism is sweet like an apathy-themed soda illustrated by charles burns.

nowadays it takes pretty much all my energy to get through an all-dayer.

yeah, perhaps all those triumphs fueled an occasionally self- harming approach to work, but damn it if the high wasn't worth the low. it was exhilarating to work that way. my last all-nighter was in when i was in my late twenties - for an outline on an episode of the OG "charmed".

This is what I've been saying for MONTHS!

i kinda resent being constantly asked to review things by every app, website, and phone representative with whom i interact. i think a person should be entitled to keep their own counsel on something in this world.

my favorite aspect of andor was how the imperials were felled not by the rebels, but their faith that their innate value to the empire would keep them safe. the rebels didn’t put a gun to lio partagaz’s head, or deedra mero in prison, but rather their belief in palpatine’s patronage. sound familiar?

A friend writes:

I saw someone's post somewhere that talked about how their
nine-year-old and all his friends have started using "That's AI"
instead of "I don't believe you."

Mom: "We're having dinosaur meat for dinner tonight."
Kid: "That's AI."

i truly appreciate that - may your deity of choice bless and keep you!
