I'm honored to share with the Sky that I'm taking on the role of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Child Neurology, starting in January 2025. I hope to live up to the leadership of my mentors Roger Brumback and Marc Patterson.

I loved writing this, on former Columbia neurology chair Bud Rowland, a personal hero, for the JCN NeuroDevelopments editorial series.

The NIH fired Rowland in 1954 for refusing to answer questions under McCarthyism. He thought he would never work again. journals.sagepub.com/eprint/WMTRZ...
Esther writes, "D.C. was a scary place in 1953.... The newspapers had screaming headlines about Red atom spies, about Reds in the state department. They were filled with articles about people who got into trouble, who lost their jobs, lost their passports, or sometimes went to jail if they refused to cooperate with their inquisitors. Even the ACLU [American Civil Liberties Union] instituted a loyalty oath to its members, weeding out those who had been Communists.... One story in the Washington Post was about a man who was under suspicion because... [he] owned hundreds of books and classical records. The issue was not even the content of the books... just the quantity."

In the most recent Immature Brains podcast with Sam Mackenzie, I say that success does not equal happiness.

I want to state for the record that I am not, at all, referring to success in karaoke contests WHICH OBVIOUSLY EQUALS HAPPINESS OMG 🎉🏅🏆
