At the weekend, I was challenged about what I liked so much about Daggerheart. I couldn't really put it into words, but after some reflection, now I can.

It does things I want to do in a game like that, in the way I want to do them, so I can work with the system rather than fight against it

Rare footy post: weird commentary last night, criticising AG for not doing enough in the game, over a montage of his crosses from the left, being missed by Kane et al. I pondered at the time, who is playing on the right? I honestly couldn't tell. It was Saka. He was anonymous. No-one cared.

Once I realised we weren't getting some Earth-X invasion or anything like that, I really leaned into it and enjoyed it a lot. There were enough DC reveals to keep my comic nerd happy too, which was nice.

What I mean is the review is of the convention. If you're talking about the pros and cons of a specific system that's not the convention.

It's like doing a restaurant review and then rating it on the quality of the conversation you had with your dining partners?

Overthinking?

I think if you're going to review cons the last thing you should do is review the games. They are non-replicable moments in time. The structure, facilities etc of the con are ongoing.

My kid has a more consistent, active gaming life than I do. She sometimes graces our presence at cons but the idea of playing with The Father is not entertained locally

Yes. This. I read it, thinking it would be some seminal work of fantasy fiction, and it turned out to be really quite dull.

I have only ever ready 1 David Eddings book, about five years ago, and I laughed. I have never read Robert Jordan either. I have never read a Drizzt book, or any of the Dragonlance books.

I have no appreciation for prog rock, or indeed any 70s rock apart from those on a Dad's Rock comp.

Where do I start? There's a big slice of the 90s that I missed between uni, my first job (which was a lot of night work) and marriage/kids. Think X-Files, Alias etc. and then stretch into Lost and 24.

I have never seen a Predator film. I only watched my first 'horror' movie on Saturday.

Sometimes its OK to watch and listen. To not comment (see me on Facebook for the last 12 years...)

This is one of my qualms about cruises. Going on a holiday is a big thing for me still. It takes up a lot of personal thrust. Having to book and do excursions during that is terrifying to me!

... the community. I really like that in a game. It's like the anti-murder hobo mentality. We don't kill things and take their stuff, we reinvest salvage into the local community and solve problems for them.

...seemingly endless under-floor and between walls crawl spaces and runways! That house must be draughty as hell!

The demonologist/psychic set up was cool though. I think the next one is in the UK (?) so my Liminal senses might start tingling.
