I’ve been playing with the phyphox app, for experiments with your phones sensors. This is the magnetic spectrum detected by the phones magnetometer placed against a tiny desk fan. Those circles must be from how the fan is driving the motor it uses?

Bit of a household project.l, replacing dying fluorescent tubes with modern led ones. It can be done with the existing t8 fitting. But there are a few traps. Check the ballast type (magnetic or electronic), ensure you use an included starter, don’t mix and match on the same lighting ring

I'm proud of living in Richmond Borough in London for many reasons. The declaration of "Borough of Sanctuary" makes me even more so - www.richmond.gov.uk/news/news_ju....
Richmond is officially a Borough of Sanctuary - London Borough of Richmond upon Thames
We are proud to announce that Richmond upon Thames has been awarded Borough of Sanctuary status by City of Sanctuary UK.

🚨Urgent: Thames Water want permission from Ofwat to ILLEGALLY pollute rivers and seas until 2040.

🤮They want your bills to fill their pockets with gold, while they fill your rivers with sewage.

✍️Sign now. Tell Ofwat to say NO to Thames Water before Tuesday 21st October.

I'm looking forward to general availability of pylock. Python packaging is confusing to explain to those less familiar. Even the official python-slim images, based on debian, make it awkward. Doubly so if you want lock files - the boilerplate to get poetry/uv on an image and running.

So I've just found out that Δθ_imu is a perfectly valid python variable name. But only an LLM would use that right? Right?

I mean - how do you even type such a thing? Are there editors that do latex maths symbol substitutions or something?

I've been playing with Modelfiles. That they are slightly similar to Dockerfiles helps.

Smart home-automation device planned obsolescence at www.belkin.com/support-arti....

Like Sonos, it's a bad look. Home automators should probably look for open source/home assistant compatible devices.

Another patch Tuesday, another blue screen. Come on @microsoft.com the quality of these has to get better. A reboot I understand, a bsod not so much. This machine has otherwise been pretty stable.

Charging robots ready for a coder dojo. I’m charging 5, and have a friend charging another 5 (+1 demo robot).

I’m annoyed. If Microsoft insist on updates that can’t be skipped, they need to drastically improve the quality of them. A morning wasted in getting windows back functioning instead of writing.

At Makers Central in Birmingham. Only here could I see a life size Johnny 5 robot build observing a robot wars style match with kids driving!

I’m now in Birmingham, ready to visit Makers Central in the morning. In an experience reminiscent of old PyConUk, I’m in an Ibis. With a train style bathroom. The room has a window, even if it’s tiny. Forgot to bring my red Fedora though . no hat for me!

@freecad.bsky.social It looks like the FreeCAD forums are down - I'm getting a 403 "Invalid response" on an "Oh Noes" page. Tried empty caches too.

I've been using an iFixit manta toolkit for a while now. It's incredibly versatile, and I like the selection and handles. I love the case, with spots
for stopping screws rolling away during a fix. I don't like that the bits often get stuck in the large drive and need pliers to get them out.

@openvibe.social ok, this app looks awesome. But there’s an angle I don’t get. What is in it for you guys? It’s free for users. I know that dev, infra, and AppStore placement is not free.

The superpower I wish I had earlier in my career is learning how to read documentation. It's intimidating, and every language or even framework does it a bit differently. But just breaking that wall and reading it for what I am working on has helped me out so much.
December 11, 2024 at 12:51 AM
I've been testing my Raspberry Pi Pico based CoderDojo KU robot and made a simple wall avoiding behaviour on it, in #micropython. Although it's now on Micropython, I added back the cute Mario tune on startup because I liked that.

We’re trying out crunchy roll at home, being a family of anime nerds. The content is great. Content distribution needs work. At the moment, enjoying season 3 of Dr Stone with my teenagers.
