I have an elderly friend who lives basically right under the helicopters — across the river from the actual ICE site. It’s giving her panic attacks and keeping her from sleeping. (Not the noise, but the panic it engenders.)

More over the top is coming. And people will get hurt and worse. The people who don’t believe it yet probably won’t believe it ever. Like the folks who deny COVID as they’re dying of it. Or deny measles vaccines as their child dies of measles.

So I’m in Portland, and we knew this was coming. But what’s breathtaking is the disparity between what’s actually happening on the ground vs the … “lies” isn’t a big enough word. Saw this on the actual WH web page and it just floored me. I guess all we can do is continue to not take the bait.

Our governor, our mayor, our city councilors, and two of our US reps have been doing quite a good job. I haven’t seen as much from our senators, but definitely more than nothing. What’s happening here is so meme-able, and everyone is into it.

It’s a strange time. You could argue that these are press releases, but there’s barely any press after decades of systematic destruction there of. You could also argue that the new world order now lets everyone speak directly to everyone without a filter. This is why we need journalism.
