Best article I’ve read in the G&M. Goes in depth on the challenges of building medium density residential in Canada. From second stairwell to FSR, to burdensome development fees and zoning, there is so much red tape that should be cut. (Free gift article) www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/ebf02b7...
The era of the shoebox condo is over. Here’s how Canada can build livable apartments
Canada needs livable apartments to help fix the housing crisis. To do that, it must change the rulebook for both condos and rentals

Really happy to see B Ioannidis’ motion to reduce salt usage and eliminate “slip and fall” liability in order to protect our water supply. I hope this includes salt usage on roads which is far worse!

Does anyone know why Kitchener installed a pedestrian island on Stirling Ave near CHCI and then removed it again a few months later? What is going on?

While scheduling an appointment to donate blood on blood.ca, my grammar eye suddenly started to twitch. Is the word "WHOM" officially dead in the English language? Can we bring it back?

For that matter, is grammar still a thing in general or am I just behind the times as usual?

It seems wrong that it is illegal to pick or transplant trilliums but perfectly fine to bulldoze over them in Ontario. Developers should be required to save the plants when building, it's not too much to ask for our provincial flower I don't think.

Just finished @astrokatie.com’s excellent book “The End of Everything”. As just a regular 💻 nerd it was a fascinating and approachable intro to some complex topics. Also the humour she brings to what could otherwise be a bit of a downer topic is a welcome counterbalance 🤗 thanks for writing, Katie!

@22-minutes.bsky.social knocks it out of the park yet again with this Just Justin sketch. How does the same guy do both Poilievre and Trudeau so very well? Still such an amazing show after all these years. youtu.be/2Zdhb778Rig?...

Hopefully one day we can add electric cars to the list of things made in Canada they we can “buy local”
Ten days until even more Trump tariffs slam into the Canadian auto sector, and Flavio Volpe says his industry is far from finding its footing in this new trade environment.

But one bright light? A made-in-Canada, 3D-printed EV named for the famed — and doomed — Avro Arrow.
'Nobody's sleeping': Canada's auto industry is at a crossroads, says Flavio Volpe
In an exclusive interview, the leader of Canada’s influential APMA auto sector body talks about the US tariff impacts, his role on the prime minister’s Canada-US relations council, and why ‘Project Ar...

Well today this YIMBY is going to reluctantly put on his NIMBY hat. There is so much land in Kitchener that could be used more efficiently without destroying nature, there is no need to put Huron Natural Area at risk. To leave comments: calendar.kitchener.ca/default/Deta...

🚨 Another Ontario Place scandal

This morning The New York Times reported that Therme made false claims to get the deal. Therme claimed they ran spas across Europe. They don’t. They just stole another company’s name and logo.

Ford is handing over our public parkland in a shady deal.

This is why we need CBC fully funded. We can’t trust corporate media because they don’t care about journalism, just the dollars.
To be super clear:

CTV Your Morning *approached* @rachelgilmore.bsky.social to do a weekly segment

CTV announced on *national TV* she would be returning each week

Then CTV *cancels* her segment after Poilievre’s staffer denounces the announcement on X

pressprogress.ca/ctv-cancelle...
Absolutely shameful that CTV caved to a disingenuous right-wing pressure campaign instead of standing their ground. It presents even more red flags about the state of the media in Canada.

@rachelgilmore.bsky.social did not deserve to be treated this way.

This is an important part of how we prevent what is happening in the USA from happening in Canada. An oligarch free media is essential to a democracy.

This is why media that is not directly controlled by the oligarchs, like CBC, is so essential. A shame the USA has no equivalent.

I have never been to a spa and I certainly don’t understand why my TAX DOLLARS are being spent on one. Articles like this don’t make me any happier with the whole situation. Surely there are better things for a government to invest in? Hospitals? Bike lanes? Or return our tax dollars??
Ontario taxpayers buying Therme a $320 million parking garage.

If the garage is late, we give Therme an additional $10,000/day.

All part of the $2.2 billion tax subsidy that Ford negotiated for Therme.

Ford is now negotiating on behalf of Canada.
