They could really step up by vocally lobbying and teaming up with key industry partners to push the government to stop their insanely damaging policies. I'm sure some of this is happening behind the scenes but I wish they were shouting from the rooftops.

Cool that Angewandte is now including SI citations in the main text. (Maybe other journals are also doing this, but ACIEE is the first one I've noticed.)

We are recruiting for Canada Impact+ fellowships in the Trant lab. Both PhD and Postdoc. Must be not in Canada right now. Competition is ridiculously stiff, so only competitive applicants will be considered. Money is pretty good.

TIGHT deadline. 1/2

Any chemist friends here? I have a gaseous question:

If you had sulfuric acid in the clouds of a planet, as well as scant water vapor, would the process of dissociation create hydrogen sulfide and thus would it smell like farts?

Just doing some fact checking.

Looking for some new ideas for formative feedback opportunities in large gen chem classes (>200). We've previously done low stakes (<2% of the overall grade) quizzes the week before exams in recitations, but we've had issues with cheating recently. Anyone doing something they really like? #ChemSky

A published paper described some of my PhD work as "potentially pointless." I choose to interpret this as a complement because it implies that there was potentially a point.

Now they're going to triage. Every proposal was discussed, and that resulted in better reviews and more informed outcomes. This is such a loss.

Combine triage with allowing decisions to be made with only two reviews -- it's hard to consider this to be the world-class review process that it was.
Y'all, I just got out of the NSF-BIO webinar where they explained changes to peer review. It's not good. 🧪 scienceforeveryone.science/changes-to-n...
