If you're wondering about my fixations over the last year, btw, they were:
- Cartoons from 40 years ago
- Sci fi from 50 years ago
- All 90s Star Trek
- WH40K as it was in 2002
- Mtg as it was in 2002
- D&D as it was in 2002
- Shitty 80s hard rock
- Swedish bands that sound like shitty 80s hard rock

Lately all my special interests are things that are extremely not easy to share with other people. Media with abandoned or (sometimes literally) dying fandoms, music that's neither classic not popular, fairly niche linguistic stuff, long-discontinued editions of games, etc. 🧵

I need to find people to be weird about pokemon with.

I'd love to think about it but I got as far as "Kirkinator" and my nose started bleeding.

I could be sexy or I could be annoying and for some reason God made his choice.
pbastronaut.bsky.social
Well, his moustache looks like that. The rest of him though...

I promise I'd be a lot more normal about stuff if I had really big tits. So really it's my parents' fault when you think about it.

I'm not even mad anymore, I just feel like we need to round these people up as a kind of public health measure.

I would've not guessed they were meant to be Kirk and Alex Jones in a million years if you hadn't said it. I thought they were meant to be that creepy French guy from the Matrix and skinny Phil Mitchell.

I feel like in recent years TMP has gained a lot of much-deserved appreciation. I love some of the later films (in fact all the TOS films, even V, are great to me), but TMP just hits different. I like that its reputation is slowly improving.

I remember spending hours looking at these in The Art of Star Trek. I suspect that if it had ever been made for TV it would've looked quite a bit more like TOS than TMP.
pbastronaut.bsky.social
Yes, I've seen that version. It's beautiful and really adds just so much. Although it doesn't change my analysis here. I really think TMP is a visual treat.

It's funny looking back though, because this trend continues for a very, very long time. The colour choices picked to compliment the tan undertones in the movies and well into TNG are extremely distinct. These schemes elevate the Trek future from its present-day influences.

The Federation is never really designed to seem astoundingly futuristic in the rest of the TOS movie era. The Enterprise feels like an earth navy ship. Instead of trying to wow us the Federation is visually an extension of the present, which in the real world was exceptionally beige.
pbastronaut.bsky.social
TWOK is the first time you really see the Federation outside of the Enterprise in the movie era (TMP has a bit of drydock and Vulcan but only barely). Where TMP's Enterprise interior and uniforms were designed to demonstrate sophistication, TWOK's Federation is designed to seem alive.

The Wrath of Khan: Star Trek enters it's tan era.

The monster maroons have that tan energy. All the greys are softened with more natural tones and subtler lighting. Even the bright colours of space are more like oil paintings. It looks great but it also signals a shift.
Admiral Kirk and Captain Spock speak at Starfleet Headquarters. They're wearing those cool maroon uniforms in an, of course, tan-coloured hallway. The USS Enterprise approaches the Regula I station, with red and blue nebulae behind them. Kirk, Chekov, Saavik, McCoy and Captain Terrell on Regula I. The USS Reliant suffers a nacelle rupture in the Mutara Nebula.

Alright guy, if you're basically never going to be happy with anything anyone says, you don't have to keep replying. You didn't have to engage at all, really.

Here's hoping the Greens overtake Labour real soon. Ciao.
pbastronaut.bsky.social
They're going to fuck this so bad that they'll not only dismiss the case but have to give Luigi a voucher that's redeemable to dismiss one extra murder charge, no expiry date.
pbastronaut.bsky.social
So you want the Greens to make a deal in secret without telling you, but you also want them to try and win as many votes as possible...

Remind me again what you're whining about?
pbastronaut.bsky.social
That's not a spell. Get back to the wizard battle, it was just getting fun.
