Last night, @jackguignol.bsky.social ran a game of @spookhouse.bsky.social’s Vampryvania, a TTRPG that simulates playing the og Castlevanias.

It was a blast! Genuinely captured the spirit and game feel of Symphony of the Night. If you get the chance, I highly recommend giving it a spin!

Continuing my yearly Halloween tradition of reading @spookhouse.bsky.social The Crypt of Blood and The Mausoleum of Gore. I keep finding new moments, new hauntings, new questions of what is real.

You should pick them up: www.muzzlelandpress.com
Two books leaning against a tombstone. The Mausoleum of Gore and the Crypt of Blood, both by Jonathan Raab.

Nice change of pace from the suave/sexy/charming archetype. Nope, he's a gross little pest!

#16: THE DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE is more or less what you'd expect from an early 70s cross-European Gothic creaker, with plenty of skin, bizarre characters, and fun set pieces. Weirdly horny and languid, and often (intentionally) funny.
DEVIL'S NIGHTMARE movie poster with spooky ladies, a man in black, an old dark house, a bloody gravestone, and a green hand emerging from the grave

"I do not believe in the world of spirits and entities"

"There is only the material"

"I have never participated in a seance or conducted rituals"

Do you hear yourself? How foolish you sound to your friends and honored ancestors???

#15: VAMPIRE HUNTER D's imagery is impossible for me to disentangle from Gothic horror and Castlevania, so the film's technical limitations and grating moments are washed away in blood on this enthralling adventure into mutant-vampire-western-ronin samurai tragedy. I've started reading the novels.
Vampire Hunter D key art by Yoshitaka Amano. D is clad in black and holding a beautiful woman in a flowing white dress

I'd chalk it up to being Old but honestly I've felt this way since about 2008 or so

I bought a PS5 and new PC a couple of years ago and I mostly use them to play games that are either in the indie space (or low requirement remasters) or 7+ years old
