I'm a horror author and member of the HWA. You can find me active here, and occasionally on Slasher. I have a short story published in Splat Magazine Issue #3 (on sale now), and another through MISHMASHERS (TBD). Feel free to reach out with any questions 😁

It's been about a year since I got my hands on the physical copy of my first ever published story, and it's wild now seeing my monster come to life in a couple different ways! Thanks again @oddoblivion.bsky.social they're perfect! 😊

These guys are great! I donate every year and may I suggest that some of the crafts they sell on behalf of the elders make great Christmas presents?
Time once again to rep my favorite place for giving: anelder.org - they supply food, firewood and supplies for traditional crafting to Navajo Elders. If you have the cash, please give these folks a hand.

I'm almost done with my quick and dirty project. What is this? Well! It's a focus wordprocessor thingy, but made to look & play like an SNES RPG.

Yes, write a novel in an RPG.

Basically, imagine if Nintendo saw the Alphasmart Neo & thought to combine it with a GBA

Convenient how they don't know who shot the gunman. Sounds like an inside job to me, because had it been one of the National Guardsmen, they would've been using them as a martyr to push their agenda even harder. They would've used them as a cash grab like they did Kirk, and soiled those kid's names.

I wonder what B.S. Trump is planning to pull that he thinks he needs the national guard surrounding him on top of secret service. Something tells me he never really cared about the other states and just wanted to set a precedent so it didn't look weird that he's surrounding himself. 🤔

This is a very good and important thread
THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

And the folks who are actually writing full-time generally only got there after years of day jobs, family support, or both.

The point of sharing this is not to demoralize anyone, but to let emerging writers know they're not failing if they can't make a living off writing alone. Almost no one can.
almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

Congrats to @natcassidy.bsky.social, @toddkeisling.com, @pfracassi.bsky.social, and @patrickbarb.bsky.social, whose titles were all named a 2025 Ingram Horror Editorial Selection today!

On a year-end list with only 23 titles, we published 4 of those titles. It's been a good year for indie horror!

Last year my wife and I were in temporary housing while relocating for work. We were also exhausted and stressed from house hunting and last minute had to cancel plans because of the bad weather we had. We ended up just heating sliced turkey from the grocery store deli, and it was good and easy lol.
Turkey Discourse appears to have begun so what I’ll say is that I roast it whole and intact with the cavity stuffed with apple, lemon, onion, and herbs, and a blend of butter and chopped herbs rubbed over and under the skin, and for almost a decade now it’s been good every year
