Shortwave is an indie horror/sci-fi press. Our books are distributed worldwide by Simon & Schuster. Founded and run by @alandistro.bsky.social (active HWA member, full SFWA member).

Congrats to @natcassidy.bsky.social, @toddkeisling.com, @pfracassi.bsky.social, and @patrickbarb.bsky.social, whose titles were all named a 2025 Ingram Horror Editorial Selection today!

On a year-end list with only 23 titles, we published 4 of those titles. It's been a good year for indie horror!

That short stories exist in the cracks and interstices of the capitalist system is how you know they’re the superior form
Yeah, unfortunately. Outside the world of magazines, anthologies, and small presses sustained by obsessive volunteer labour, the capital-I industry rather does seem to find short stories an unwanted form electricliterature.com/i-love-short...

"THE FUCKING POINT IS, SUPPORT INDIE PUBLISHING."

Great thread here of some fantastic indie presses to support directly with your dollars this holiday season (and all other seasons).
@shortwavebooks.bsky.social for books across the speculative genres;
@chmmagazine.bsky.social for the best Weird Horror/Sword & Sorcery magazines;
@malarkeybooks.bsky.social who force us all to be smarter & more literary;
I'll never remember everyone.

Happy to see @toddkeisling.com's THE SUNDOWNER'S DANCE and @cshumble.bsky.social's TO CARRY A BODY TO ITS RESTING PLACE on the Stoker Award reading list.

There is still time to recommend titles, and it takes a lot of recommendations to make the prelim ballot. Make sure to send in your fav reads!

Posted my four star review of Wilted Pages edited by @aijiang.bsky.social & @christinogle.bsky.social

Scary, atmospheric, and right on the nose. The wide diaspora and clever format made this collection fun, creepy, and provoking. Everything I could have wanted.

I've read the first chapter of this, and it's great! Super glad Brie's novel got picked up!
New book coming summer 2027!

ALLIGATOR BABY, the debut novel from the writer of the WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE podcast, Brie Williams!

This is a novel-in-stories (similar to King's Cycle of the Werewolf) about a monster that has seemingly risen out of legend to terrorize an isolated coastal community.

GUESS WHAT: REST STOP IS COMING FOR YOUR EARS, TOO … and it’s bringing friends ...

So excited for this collection to have found an audiohome with Simon Maverick. The narrator we’ve got is an absolute superstar, and there just may be some extraspecial audio delights included, as well.
More big news!

I KNOW A PLACE: Rest Stop and Other Dark Detours, @natcassidy.bsky.social's first collection, will be getting an audiobook from Simon Maverick, an audio imprint of Simon & Schuster!

The audiobook is available for pre-order now everywhere audiobooks are sold!

I read THE EXTRA on Halloween and still mean to post my reader review in the usual places, but for now, in this space, here it is in a nutshell: It rocks. Absolutely gripping delivery on a five-star high concept. Quite eager to read its sequels when they drop.
Between Ingram and bookstore orders (thanks @littleghostsbooks.bsky.social!) we've sold nearly another 100 paperback copies of THE EXTRA today alone. 👀

You'll be hearing about this book for a while. And the next in the series, THE OTHER, is coming June 2026!

This is sort of the plot of my story Hush, Little Sister (except AI dead sister) in OBSOLESCENCE from @shortwavebooks.bsky.social, also in collection Limelight and Other Stories! OBSOLESCENCE also has other haunting and dark tales of tech terror...👀
You could literally do a horror anthology based on the different ways this can go wrong.

What if AI dead mom ends up neglected just like one of those digital picture frames. Sold at a digital goodwill for $2.50.

Always nice when our deals get featured in the Publishers Lunch. Only three horror titles this week... one from Penguin Random House, a second from Penguin Random House, and then Shortwave!

Still feels a little surreal.

If you missed it last week, check out Maisie Culver's OF MONSTERS AND MENSES!
