Literally could write a dissertation about how INDIKA is a game about living with obsessive compulsive disorder and this kinda nails it
my experience thus far with Indika is that I painstakingly gathered five buckets of water, a nun dumped all my water on the floor, and the game crashed without saving. 10/10 for ludonarrative

U.S. legislators: "Soldiers and sailors, if you are ordered to kill someone and you believe the order is unlawful, don't do it. Remember your oath to The Constitution.
U.S. President: "Kill the legislators."

Am I missing something? Anything at all?
I still have characters left, if so.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s office said it would cost $244.64 to review the emails between Abbott and Musk, which @kutnews.bsky.social and The Texas Newsroom paid.

After the check was cashed, Abbott’s and Musk’s lawyers sought to keep the records secret.

...Okay, looking at my finances again, I massively misremembered. Looks like one year I made just under $56k? The other years, I maxed out at $16k.

The only reason I thought this was survivable for a "full time" job was: I've just come from making $13k/year as a part-time security guard!
On the "authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money" point — when I was actively writing comics, I had one year of $60k. The other years were all under $30k.

I made up the difference with some family support — but mostly credit card debt. I can't recommend that.
And the folks who are actually writing full-time generally only got there after years of day jobs, family support, or both.

The point of sharing this is not to demoralize anyone, but to let emerging writers know they're not failing if they can't make a living off writing alone. Almost no one can.

almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.

I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

REMINDER: if you think your right-on lefty/socialist/communist/etc. politics justifies pirating books, well guess what? Most writers don't make a living wage from their books or writing work, and stealing from them makes you a class traitor.
