The other day I bitched that people always forget LaMonica McIver in their list of politicized prosecutions.

The New Yorker has a profile here, so hopefully we can change that.

The Congresswoman Criminalized for Visiting ICE Detainees
LaMonica McIver went to tour an immigration jail in her district. Now she faces seventeen years in prison.

BREAKING — ChongLy Scott Thao's family has released a statement disputing DHS's outrageous justification for his arrest.

"He does not live with, nor has he ever lived with, the individuals DHS claims were targets of this operation...[the family] does not know the individuals DHS references."

The 25th Amendment must be invoked by the cabinet. I’m all for pressuring them. Congressional Dems should lead the charge. Not on Bluesky or Threads. Let’s do it.

New — I wrote about ChongLy Scott Thao, the elderly Hmong American wrongly arrested and forced out of his home by ICE in his underwear during the punishing Minnesota winter, what witnesses saw, and DHS's racist claim that he fit the description of another Asian man they were looking for.

My story:
Behind the disturbing image of ICE snatching a half-naked, elderly Hmong American from his home
DHS has claimed without evidence that they were looking for someone else when they took ChongLy Scott Thao.

Chilling words by Andrew Weissmann. Following the playbook of authoritarian regimes, the Trump administration is trying to dehumanize victims of its own brutality. Now it is Renee Good who is being investigated and tarnished.

Pew Research Institute (2023):

• Red State Texas has about 2.1 million undocumented immigrants

• Red State Florida has 1.6 M undocumented immigrants

• Blue State Minnesota has 130,000.

And yet only Minnesota is being occupied by masked thugs over "immigration."

It's *not* about immigration.

I’m the one in the brown hat.

What you might not see is the victim in the car. His feet are pointing out the open car door. An agent is sitting on one of his legs. He’s only wearing crocs.

Bystanders found his legal work visa in his abandoned car.

#AbolishICE
This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

Harmett Dhillon absolutely knows this is bullshit, but is doing it because she’s a loyal member of a criminal regime who wants to be AG.
Harmett Dhillion threatens Don Lemon: "Imagine you have a bank robbery that's being planned by a number of criminals ... and then a podcaster says, 'Let me embed myself in here and come along for the ride and livestream the crime.' That would not be protected by the 1st Amendment."

For some reason, very few people these days will stand up and say it, but: the US federal bureaucracy is one of the great wonders of the world, staffed with incredibly diligent people who do their jobs well and care deeply.

Trump's destruction of the federal apparaus was a historic crime.
The Purged
Donald Trump’s destruction of the civil service is a tragedy not just for the roughly 300,000 workers who have been discarded, but for an entire nation.

I think on balance it's good that Walz is doing this. And I especially appreciate the explicit reference to compiling evidence for future prosecutions. But Eliot knows this space as well as anyone out there. So these are good things to keep in mind, be aware of, have processes, etc.
Mass filming raises unresolved structural questions: storage, access, verification, metadata preservation, archiving, and chain of custody.

Without trained volunteers, defined workflows, and appropriate tools, large volumes of footage collapse into disorder rather than accountability.
