Workers can be dismissed without cause nearly two years into a job, and under this compromise, almost half a year in.

Opponents of the workers' rights reforms will return for more to weaken the Bill.

I say to my colleagues on the front bench, be bold, take heart.

A report from Labour’s National Executive Committee Away Day on 2nd December by left CLP reps. Deputy Leader’s Report Everyone congratulated Lucy Powell on her successful election. Lucy talked about rebuilding the voter coalition, including in the nations, and discussed the May elections and supporting Scotland and Wales. She was enthusiastic over the Budget, commenting that it was a very “Labour” budget.

The Government must invest in local government, protect jobs and rebuild our public services.

Without proper funding, councils will continue to go bust and our communities will pay the price.

Barring trans women from taking part in internal Party democracy is divisive and cruel. Labour’s NEC should roll back this decision.

The Government must also reject any EHRC guidance that enforces the exclusion of trans people from public life.

Lifting the two child cap was a key win for Labour MPs and anti-poverty campaigners.

However, the Government's child poverty strategy does little to build on that success.

We need more ambitious action than this.

We don’t agree with keeping inheritance tax perks for wealthy landowners but suspending the whip from MPs simply for voting against the Government is intolerant and stifles debate.

Markus Campbell-Savours should be reinstated.

Scrapping jury trials would undermine a foundational principle of British justice: the right to have your case heard by fellow citizens.

We need investment and reform to tackle court backlogs, not the abolition of key legal safeguards.
Lammy’s jury trial plans are ‘massive mistake’, say Labour MPs and peers
Only cases such as murder and rape or offences carrying sentence longer than three years would face jury under plans

This is a great initiative.

At a time when far right politics is on the rise, it's more important than ever that we unite to reject narratives of division and racism.

These plans must be binned in full.

Trump's escalating threats against Venezuela are the latest demonstration of the total contempt in which he holds international law.

His bogus, paper-thin justifications for US military aggression should be called out for what they are: a fig-leaf for illegal regime change.

The scrapping of the two child cap was a major win for campaigners and the labour movement, and vindicates the MPs who voted against it.

But without a radical overhaul of the economy, living standards will stagnate.

John McDonnell MP sets out his thoughts on today’s Budget. The wave of relief that swept over the Parliamentary Labour Party was palpable when they heard the Chancellor confirm that the two child cap was at last to be scrapped. This is a huge victory for all those Labour MPs and campaigning groups, who fought so hard to lift 500,000 children out of poverty.

Apsana is right.

Over 100 organisations have joined Labour MPs, Councillors and Members in urging the Chancellor to do the right thing and scrap this cruel Tory policy.
Apsana Begum is right, the chancellor needs to scrap the two child benefit cap entirely.

Apsana was of course suspended from the Parliamentary Labour Party by Keir Starmer last year for voting to scrap the cap.

Labour members are right.

Mahmood’s proposals shamelessly attack asylum seekers and should be withdrawn immediately.
