It sucks that cameras have become so friggin expense and they’re not even that much better than 10-15 years ago. I’m gonna use my Panasonic Lumix G7 until it dies.

The Philadelphia Film Festival starts Oct 16th! Make a plan to attend! filmadelphia.org/festival/

It’s a lot easier to understand what movies are showing by flipping through this beautiful 100 page program than clicking through the website.

And these are going into the closet. 😭 See you in April!

There is still hope! Let’s go Cubs!

This might be the last roll of film I shoot for a while. 😢 Sadly, the little knob that opens the back of the camera so I can insert/remove film broke somehow. I used expired color film and it didn't come out that well. Back to my relatively new 10 year old Panasonic G7.

Here we go again! Last night was a good night. Here’s hoping for another 2/2.

DJI makes *great* products and if you've had your eye on a DJI Osmo Action 5 (superior to GoPro) or DJI Mic 3 or Mic Mini (amazing little wireless mics for mobile recording), I recommend buying them while you can.
seanhollister.bsky.social
Why would DJI do this when it already sells the Osmo Pocket 3 here? It's facing a total import ban on all new gadgets *this December* and Trump doesn't seem poised to change that.

DJI products have been disappearing from shelves; it's on its last legs in US. www.theverge.com/report/69239...
DJI ‘remains committed to the US market’ as shelves go bare of drones
Is DJI exiting the US drone market? The company says no.

That being said, most of us have important decision points in our lives where our choices can lead us into a life where we experience more diversity vs more homogeneity.

Living in a diverse neighborhood and having your kids enroll in public school are the easiest way to prioritize diversity.
peterskim.org
The last time I had daily interaction with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds was when I was in public high school 30+ years ago. And if that's true for you, I don't think we should be too hard on ourselves. Society is designed to segregate us and yes, we should try to fix that.

If your kids attends an elite school with mostly only rich white kids, they’re developing a very narrow view of the world.
peterskim.org
The academics at the criteria based public high schools are typically very strong.

But more importantly, attending a socio-economically diverse school prepares kids to be engage intelligently and empathetically with a complex world.

School should not just be about academics.

It’s high school tour season in Philly. Philly public schools get a bad rap but much of it is unwarranted.

There are lots of great public schools and the criteria-based high schools are some of the best in the country.

Carver E&S is an amazing high school that I’d be thrilled for my son to attend.

Aesthetic also seems to play a bigger role in electric guitar shopping. I prefer the look of the Tele over the Strat. And the more typical PRS models are also beautiful.
peterskim.org
It feels a lot harder shopping for electric guitars than acoustic. The necks can feel so different across different brands and models but as a beginner electric guitarist, it’s hard to know if wide vs narrow or thin vs thick is better for me.

Had a half day off yesterday and used some of it to visit Russo to check out some electric guitars. I’ve always wanted a Tele or PRS.

There’s this PRS SE Studio Standard that kinda looks like Strat, has a lot more versatility through its pickup combination, and unique PRS aesthetic touches.

Oh and I had no idea until now that Ultimo on 20th St is now Musette!

Vibrant has been my go-to in that area so I just don’t even think about going anywhere else.
peterskim.org
I could understand if you live in the suburbs and there’s literally no alternative to chain store crap but there’s no excuse in the city.

Like how does one walk around Walnut St and choose to go to Starbucks instead of Elixir or Vibrant?
peterskim.org
I don’t know how so many people can drink Starbucks coffee (or worse) every day.

It’s gotta be one of those things where that burnt coffee taste gets so engrained in people’s taste buds that it’s a good thing that they can’t consider anything else being preferable.
peterskim.org
If you get *good* coffee, black coffee actually tastes good.

First time I had single origin light roasted Ethiopian coffee, it blew my mind that coffee by itself could taste so good.
adrew.dadguy.help
people who like black coffee are just morning ipa drinkers

It helps to start adjusting your schedule and exposure to light 2-3 days before the flight. I also do melatonin. There are apps that tell you when to do what. I’ve used Timeshifter.

It actually worked when I went to Singapore for work! All my US coworkers were wrecked by the jet lag but I was fine.

I hate how the term "creator" has been largely co-opted by digital/social media. We need to create because it connects us to our humanity. But not to create endless volumes of digital content to be mind-numbingly consumed by the masses!
peterskim.org
It's never too late to pick up some sort of creative outlet like playing a musical instrument, drawing, painting, etc. As we become surrounded by AI shit and compelled to be consumers of endless feeds of influencer garbage, it's so important to learn to be creators, ideally with non-digital media.
peterskim.org
Instead of wasting money on useless shit from Amazon's Prime Day deals, consider getting a musical instrument from a local music store! There are also good deals on Facebook Marketplace, but if you're new to playing an instrument, I recommend buying new from a reputable local dealer.
