It would be the perfect Paediatric medical conference.

Need to make this happen somehow….
I'd watch a muppet show movie where the muppets infiltrate an academic conference.

Interesting...

This is/was a landmark case report reportedly showing pharmacogenomic driven harm in a baby.

Codeine isn't used in post-natal period now (presumably in combo with other reasons like lack of efficacy in some mothers).

Do I want to go back to using codeine - no
But curious - yes.
Expression of Concern—On Jan 20, 2026, The Lancet was contacted with new allegations of integrity concerns about a 2006 Case Report by Koren et al. on morphine poisoning in a breastfed baby. These allegations have been referred for a formal investigation. Read more: tinyurl.com/mpkdzsxw

Part of an interesting thread on homicide stats in general.

All very sobering and make me really glad for social workers - as most of the younger children are killed at home by parents.

Now to give my reluctant teens a hug.
CHILD HOMICIDE

About 69 under 18s were homicide victims each year (75% of them boys). These fall into two groups: under 12s killed by family members and over 12s killed by acquaintances/strangers outside the home (what's often termed 'serious youth violence').

Great thread and great resource.

My take away - children are the group with the highest rates of poverty (it’s not even close) and it isn’t getting better.
A new way to explore UK Poverty data ⬇️

Poverty is deepening. Developing solutions to tackle this problem starts with clear, accessible evidence.

To make our data more accessible we’ve published all charts, maps and tables from our UK Poverty 2026 in a new, interactive dashboard.

This is genuinely scary.

There is literally one health service for bladder issues following ketamine use too - at @alderhey.nhs.uk
For the first time nationally, more children are seeking help for ketamine use than for ecstasy. Norfolk reflects that wider shift in drug patterns among children – including two in primary school.

New @mhragovuk.bsky.social statement on paracetamol in pregnancy

tl;dr version - if you need pain relief, you can use this as indicated on the patient info sheet/advice from Dr. No evidence of risks from it in pregnancy, but definite risks from untreated pain and fever
