I'm very sad to say that this event has to be cancelled!

Yesterday, I was among 8 arrested at an action demanding:

- The safe return of Freedom Flotilla members currently being detained in Israeli prisons, including Mskwaasin Agnew

- A two way arms embargo

- Immediate sanctions on Israel

Buffalo! I'll be in town to read at @gutterpopcomics.bsky.social on October 10, alongside @philmcandrew.bsky.social, Gia Ligammari and Max Weiss

yeah, I do get the sense that he loves to wield his power as a filmmaker in fun ways
philmcandrew.bsky.social
Yup. He's a dipshit, it turns out.

Peacemaker definitely isn't for kids, but I appreciate that he recognizes that a bunch of superhero obsessed ten year olds who are being raised by actual nazis will probably watch this shit in a few years
philmcandrew.bsky.social
He knows how to deliver the fun stuff in a superhero story (big fights and action, large monsters, C-list weirdos with powers, guys who have rocks for skin, etc) and he gets that superheroes at their best are simple moral stories for children that reflect the times

I'm pretty neutral on James Gunn as a filmmaker, he does some things that I like and some things that I hate, but I think he is doing a better job of "reading the room" than anyone else making superhero tv/movies right now.

More thoughts: In a superhero ecosystem dominated with the outdated "my daddy was murdered and in response to that I will wage war on bad guys" trope, I like that Gunn's DC universe seems to favor "my daddy was a bad guy and now I have to figure out out to be a normal human with help from friends"

I do love a story that focuses on the losers in a world where superman exists

my feelings about the peacemaker tv show are that it's very corny and tries wayyy too hard to be funny and offbeat (it does actually sometimes succeed), but it also somehow has more soul than any other superhero thing in recent memory, which makes it stand out.

I have no idea how feasible this is given the nature of film and tv rights, but free business idea: a little company that does boutique blueray releases of cool NEW things that have never seen a physical release. A criterion collection for brilliant tv shows that got canceled after 1 or 2 seasons.

As far as I can tell, Lodge 49 (my favorite tv show ever), has never been released on blueray/dvd/etc
philmcandrew.bsky.social
I'm trying to get back into the habit of buying physical copies of movies and tv shows that I love (I don't really have any money right now, so it's slow going), but a lot of recent stuff has never actually seen a physical release!

Yeah, out of all of them Lithgow is the one that ruffles my feathers the most. But whatever, fuck that guy.
philmcandrew.bsky.social
I haven't seen a single article about how Matt Berry or Kit Harrington or John Lithgow or Keira Knightley or fucking Nick Frost AND Simon Pegg have very publicly made it clear that they value a big blood soaked paycheck over human rights

A TV show and new big budget audiobooks, both featuring casts full of well known and previously beloved actors

I'm glad these slimy comedians are getting ripped to shreds, but can we hold ALL of the actors who have said "yes" to new harry potter trash to the same standards please
philmcandrew.bsky.social
Ah, yes. There's the sabres team I recognize! Getting shut out 4-0 in the first game of the season

I can't believe Zibanejad cut his hair

I feel like Krebs did a pokemon evolution during the off season, he is now Krebseggutor

So many new guys playing for Buffalo this year. I thought I had done a good job of paying attention to off-season and pre-season lineup changes, but every 10 mins I'm like "who the fuck is that guy!?"

Dahlin is better at calling penalties than the refs
philmcandrew.bsky.social
From what I got to see of that 1st Sabres period of the season, they looked "okay," despite ending the period down a goal (watching from a sports bar in a large venue where my partner is doing roller derby practice and also a buffalo bills podcast is currently being recorded live in the same space?)

Going to try to keep my 2025 - 2026 NHL season hockey goofs and shitposts contained in one thread (go Sabres, obviously)
