Annagh Stone Row • Mayo

Though typically thought of as a place of Christian pilgrimage, the hinterland of Croagh Patrick has long been a sacred place.

This can be inferred from the number of prehistoric monuments in the immediate hinterland of the mountain. Like this stone alignment at Annagh.

Landscape of the Early Bronze Age miners..⛏️

Driving home through Cwmystwyth valley yesterday in mid Wales, below the EBA mine on Copa Hill (out of picture, above right) it never fails to impress how a few true geniuses 4500 years ago managed to spot ores in these bleak hills

Incredible🤯

An arrowhead made of #meteorite iron: around 1,500 BC, a meteorite struck #Estonia. A fragment of it arrived - presumably in the baggage of an amber trader - at what is now Lake Biel, #Switzerland. An arrowhead was then made there from the cosmic iron.
From Mörigen, 900-800 BC.

A proud moment this summer: bagging a stone that isn't already on the @megalithic.bsky.social (very rare occurrence!). On the Beara peninsula east of Adrigole, a little way north of the Drumlave row. It involved crawling under barbed wire but then we saw there was a gate. #StandingStoneSunday
