Just a reminder that if you're interested in video games, please consider following me at @bdalimey.bsky.social too. Will shortly be posting some of my thoughts about the games I've played this year over there.

Good for MIT. About time institutions started standing up to Trump. Hopefully this will inspire other universities to reject the compact too. (Gift link)

😂 "What if Kristi Noem gets mad and decides that Cards Against Humanity Explains the Joke is not informational material?" Answer: "She can fuck right off, because we got a binding ruling from Trump’s own government that confirms this product is informational and 100% exempt from his stupid tariffs."
Not a game: Cards Against Humanity avoids tariffs by ditching rules, adding explanations
You absolutely, definitely cannot play it.

No you unlock the ascension levels when you win a run against the Act 3 boss.

Slay The Spire is probably my all time favourite video game. I’ve put hundreds of hours into it, across multiple platforms. I even beat Ascension 20 once. But I have still never beaten the Heart, and I long ago gave up trying to.

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.”

Is it me, or are BELCO being slower than usual to get the power back on? I didn’t see much damage from the storm, but 5,363 customers are still out at 7pm. Including me. 🙁 #Bermuda

I may have no power and no AC after hurricane Imelda smacked Bermuda last night, but the Iain M. Banks re-read continues regardless! Just two books left now. Leaving the Hydrogen Sonata for last given it was his last SF work, so instead, the short story collection. #Books #Booksky

“At one point, [Trump] mentioned that the Atomic Energy Commission had confirmed that his strike on Iran had destroyed Tehran’s nuclear program. (Iran still has a nuclear program, and the AEC hasn’t existed since the mid-’70s.)”

One of the reasons why I don’t think there will be fair elections again is that everyone in the administration is acting like there won’t be. *So many* are going to jail if they’re ousted and I honestly can’t see them letting that happen.

At least we now know that Mandami’s “Communist promises” are fake, so no need to worry about them!

It's going to come awfully close to us here in Bermuda though. ☹️

Almost. “During the 2016 presidential election, Vance wrote that he goes "back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical a–hole like Nixon who wouldn't be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he's America's Hitler."”
Fact-checking JD Vance's past statements and relationship with Trump
Vance, 39, won his Senate seat in 2022 with Trump’s backing. He would be one of the youngest vice presidents in U.S. history.

Really inspiring speech from Kimmel. I’d like to think it encourages more corporations and news outlets and universities to stand up to Trump and start explicitly calling out the awfulness of the things he’s doing.

I wrote an opinion piece for a Bermuda newspaper every week for a year, and wrote my own political blog for five years, so I am acquainted with the use of English, yes.

Oh for goodness sake. Are you one of those people Daniel mentioned that likes to bash the NYT? “Lying” means the person saying the thing knew it to be untrue. Do you know that to be the case with Trump’s statements? The NYT isn’t the only outlet that’s careful in its use of that word.
philwells.bsky.social
I was struck by how blunt the NYT’s morning newsletter was: “Much of what Trump said during his press conference was untrue.”
