The word “payroll” has a definition and it includes not just base pay (the number you want to use), but also bonuses, deferred payments, options, buyouts, luxury taxes, and probably more.

Point is: the Dodgers have had, and will likely continue to have, the highest *payroll * in MLB for some time.
