I was on my way home from work tonight, when a wee scrote with a stubbly mustache waited until I had walked past his tracksuit but was not out of earshot to say, in an affected camp, "Oh hi-ya! Am gonnae bum ya!".

Naturally, I considered that his hesitancy made the offer not worth considering.

When they call the USA "the land of the free", they mean to distinguish it from all the other lands.

As white people we are socialised to see ourselves as white saviours, more ‘civilised’ (ha!), advanced, etc. But black people worked out so much stuff that white people are going to need to learn from if we want to come out the other side of all this.

I'm rewatching "Wish Me Luck" and enjoying its not being Glaister. It's a story of women being scared and doing it anyway. Oh, and men being a bit rubbish.

A good blog on the Darlington bigots ET tribunal decision today. A bad decision, which effectively says it’s reasonable to segregate away trans people. Not judicially precedent-setting but in the epilegal sphere of HR departments likely to be quite influential.

Would UK Labour please notice that chasing Farage to the right is electoral suicide?

There will be just as fast a wipe-out in Scotland as there was a wipe-in last time.

And as a trans observer, I shall be keen to point out exactly how they asked for it.

Dear USAans, do you trust the highest Court in the land to defend your First Amendment rights?

Also, there's a bridge from Manhattan to Brooklyn which I can offer you on *very* favorable terms.

False. They have actual fingers.

What they *should* do is weakly correlated with what they *can* do.

Yes, this is a grammar flame as well as a political observation. You're weak so they fuck you.
The First Amendment protects the public’s right to:

1. Film ICE in public

2. Photograph ICE in public

3. Observe what ICE does in public

ICE and DHS officials cannot lay a finger on any American who is peacefully exercising First Amendment rights.

Glasgow High Court has today excused me from jury service for being the same person as a person with a different name, address, and nationality, who did jury service two months ago.

How refreshingly unkafkaesque!

If you believe that it's unfair for cis women and trans women to compete with each other at sport, then I disagree with you. But even assuming this view, it does not follow that "women's sport" should stay being called "women's sport" when it excludes women.

TOO LATE!

ICE now require impunity. It is ICE, not Trump, who will destroy American democracy, because the alternative is their punitive comeuppance.
We must NEVER allow ANY President to have ANYTHING to do with VOTING!
Especially THIS “President”. He and his minions will be cheating as hard as ever to steal this next one.

It seems that we have a new wave of people and organisations choosing to leave the other place and set up on Bluesky.

So now is a good time to resurface this starter pack of LGBTQIA+ orgs to help get you going here on Bluesky.

Apt retort to Sir Paul Nurse’s recent comment that “There’s many bad people around, but they have made scientific advances.”
Following coverage over the weekend of Sir Paul Nurse's comments that suggested that the only reason that a Fellow should be expelled from @royalsociety.org is scientific misconduct, I have written to him to explain the risks such an attitude poses of increasing sexual harassment in STEM.

This is correct. The "calm down" crew are saying "calm down" to people who are calm already, and forensic about what is wrong. It is the "calm down" crew who seek to raise the fog. They are right about one thing only: that effective resistance benefits from strategy more than anger.
There are good journalists out there who grasp that we are living in an emergency moment, at the mercy of serial liars, bigots, and government thugs. They are steady. They are clear-eyed. They understand what is needed. And they have been right exponentially more often than the "calm down" crew.
